Quick update:
Several days after getting the latest firmware on my ECU, my BRZ is running fine and I'm no longer having this issue. Fingers crossed that I'm in the clear now, and the new ECU update solves the problem. So far, so good! |

Made the appointment when I got the letter in the mail, they said that Scion warranty won't cover a loaner car! Said they would replace the next ECU Saturday but I have to wait, sounds like they have it down to a science. Been driving 5k trouble free miles with the ECU light.
Also the keyless trunk release and trunk release button quit working, is this related or just a fuse ?

Had this issue occur on my manuel FR-S this week, so add me to the list.
I brought it into my Scion dealer and they said they could not re-flash my ecu. Now they have to replace the ecu. WS12888 Scion FR-S - manuel 11000 km VIN:....7067XX Waiting for new ECU, quoted < 1 week Ontario CANADA Update 13/04/2 Got the car fixed, new ECU seems to have more kick than before. =)

1+ weeks later-- no issues, so far it looks like I'm in the clear. Dealer flashing to the latest ECU solved the problem. Woot woot!

900 KM, started experiencing at around 30km, just got off the phone with Scion Canada who said that they have never heard of the issue but they will investigate which seems odd since its been months since people first started reporting it. Going to take it to the dealer soon and see what they have to say.

Question for those that have had their ECU replaced to fix the CEL issue: are you guys still experiencing idle dips (to about 500 rpm)?
My ECU was replaced 500+ miles ago and still experience idle dips every so often. |

I didn't get a new ecu but I got a flash and once in a while the idle will dip a few notches on the rpm gauge and float back up. These cars have a rougher idle. It tends to dip when it switches in/out of direct injection. nothing to worry about. But the first few weeks after a swap/flash you will watch the cluster like a hawk. My dealer is calling the Scion CEL/idle/ECU issue a recal, I did get a ltter in the mail. Unfortunately they expect me to wait for the to replace the ECU , they said no loaner cars for Scion warranty, is that true? never heard of that before. I've already had it up there once and all they did was reset the ECU. Got inspection coming up in a couple months may just leave it for them to deal with it then. My understanding is this isse is purely a reporting error and not mechanical so I'm incined to drive it. Only concern is passing the ODBII yearly emission check.

well heres my story, two days ago i go to start my car up in the morning. everything is fine let her warm up in all. get down to end of my court and it starts shaking and it stalls. had trouble starting up the first couples times i tried and then it finally worked. ok so i shut it down and tried to replicate what i was feeling and it starts up fine the next few times. hmmm. started on my journey to work, and about 15 min down the road CEL comes on along with slip light. Car still feels normal until i come to a complete stop, it idles rough. Get to work called the dealership and told them i was bringing the car in with the issues. At the end of the day I get in and the car has no trouble starting up but the lights are still on. I take it easy leaving the army base that i work at and get stuck in the bumper to bumper traffic as usual. As I sit there waiting for traffic to move, I creep up closer to the car infront of me and the car stalls again. drifted into the shoulder i shut her down and tried to start it back up. The starter goes and Boom I hear a clanking noise and there is now smoking coming from under the hood. i get out and there is also oil draining very rapidly from underneath. dealership towed my car back.
only news i got from the dealership is that some how a cam broke through the valve cover and that they will begin a tear down next week. but because i do my own oil changes, they're trying to say that "it may have been caused do to lack of scheduled service" since they have no record of me bringing the car there for oil changes. such bs, you can only imagine what im going through at the moment. |
