Upgraded Lighting on FR-S

This was sent as a PM by @Hardpack, but it's better if everyone can help because I forget lots of stuff, haha!

1: For my low beams, are they just a plug and play with an HID kit?
2: For my high beams/DRLs if I wanted to put HIDs here would I need to install a projector?
3: If I wanted to turn my low beams into low/high beams what would that entail? If done, what would happen to my current high beams/DRLs?
4: Turn signals, fog lights, markers... I want to put LEDs here, are they just plug and play or is there anything else I need to do?
5: For interior lights, are those just plug and plays?

Any help at all would be really appreciated. Lighting is the next mod I plan to do to my car, and with a garage, I plan on painting my headlight housings red and my high beam reflectors black if I can manage to turn my current low beams into low/high beams.
1. Yup... I order my kits from hidextra.com and they are easy to install.

2. You can install HIDs in your high beams without a projector... it's basically the same as installing into the low beam. You should disable the DRLs be removing the resistor pack, though. (that is in the DIY section)

3. Talk to Kevin: @digital_assassin about the low beam projector conversion. He has done it and now his high and low beams are in the projector. It's pretty slick... you could even keep your regular high beams and have four bulbs lighting up the road.

4. For turn signals I would recommend using VLED's switchback bulbs. They run white when they are a parking light, then they turn orange when they flash. Very slick. You will also need their digital flasher relay so that you don't get speed blinkers when you convert to LED. The sidemarkers use peanut bulbs and LED bulbs are plug and play. Fog lights... well, I am using HIDs in my fogs... tried LED bulbs, but couldn't find anything reasonably priced that had the output I wanted.

5. Interior is plug and play.

Hope that helps!

My eventual plan is to bake the headlights and either paint them all red except for the high beam reflector which i would paint black, or just black them out completely. I think from what I saw on your video on youtube, painting the reflector pretty much makes that light useless.

Yeah, haha, don't paint the high beam reflector if you want it to output any usable light. Oops.

Another idea so I could paint the reflector was to do a retrofit kit to install a projector where the high beams go. This would allow me install HID high beams there as well as paint them for that black on red look I want.

I wonder if anyone has done that yet... seems like someone out there might have, but you could be the first.

Yea I think it would be cool to have "reded out" headlights as opposed to the normal "blacked out" ones :P
