Thanks Steve,

So the formula should be:

Ethanol_Percentage = round(max(0, min(100, (V_in - Voff) * 100 / Vrange))))

Where Voff would be ~ 0.5 Volts
Vrange would be 4 Volts
V_in is the input from the flex fuel kit
The min and max functions clamp the results to lie within 0-100 percent
The round function would add a small amount of hysteresis to cope with sampling noise.

As that system will include a small LCD screen I was also wanting to display the current fuel ethanol percentage. I understand the output from the kit is a 0.5v to 4.5v voltage level. My question is:

Is there a formula between voltage and ethanol content that I can use? If it is a linear equation (EthanolPercentage = xV + y) I can easily find x and y by looking at the percentage displayed on the OFT with a couple of different fuel mixtures, if it isn't it will take a bit longer. I'm hoping this information is something you can share.

Thanks
Hi mate,

The relationship is linear. You can either decode the frequency coming out of the ethanol sensor, or the voltage being sent to the ECU pin A35-20 from the sender. The relationship will be in the ROMRaider .xml file (multiplier + offset values under "Ethanol Sensor Scaling").

Hope everything works well for you.

Yesterday I installed my kit and loaded the base tune from Shiv. I just sent him a couple of logs - 91 Octane and after filling with a half tank an E58 log.

Ethanol content display

I just posted a guide for building and installing a system that will display the current ethanol content as read by the OFT flex fuel sensor.

(It also automates the manual AC system)

Sent Shiv an email a few days ago, still waiting for response. Is this still available?

I used some of what you were saying to confirm my calculations. Set 0v parameter to -12.5 and 5v parameter to 112.5 on my P3Cars display. Tapped the signal from the ethanol analyzer. Works like a charm.

The P3Cars display looks very cool. I'm glad you were able to display the ethanol content.

Has this been ported over to AT yet? My finger is on the trigger, especially with it on sale @ OpenFlash right now.

I got my base FF tune for my car from Shiv in October. I then sent him the logs he asked for. He was able to confirm that the base FF tune was fine for my car.
