ive got a good 4k miles or so on my current gates (non racing) belt. It has been holding up quite well to horrid abuse. My ac has been on most of the time I have owned my vehicle (up until about 3 weeks ago when it finally started cooling down).

Are you on the stock pulley? Verify your alignment of pulleys. There is a lot of play in angle. A few degree's can cause too much tension. Unbolt the two bolts on the top of the alternator bracket, they are slotted so that you can slide the top of blower forward / back away from the firewall.

Personally I never broke a belt on the stock pulley, only my smaller one and this was also related to over-sized belt. I put a good 8k miles or so on the standard 3.48" belt with fairly "spirited" driving sessions of 30+ minutes that rarely hit lower than 4,500RPM

For which pulley, and which belt, the standard or racing?

anybody know if the idler pulley in this kit would work? thought I might just replace all and make it look clean if I had to get a new idler anyway

Vortech idler pulleys seizing and belts breaking

The idler on the vortech SC is the issue.

So wanting to know "now" latest kits, assuming a guy does a great install, doesen't deciat from stock goods meaning no other pulleys etc, straight 91 gas tune, is this now a reliable no fuss kit? No cutting or modding needed and all bolt in?

You still need to file a nub down when installing the bracket for the alternator, and a few minor plastic parts need modifying for the intercooler piping as far as I know. I would read over the manual to see exactly what needs to be done, its very simple/easy with a file.

If you want added insurance, get the gates racing belt and a new pulley for the supercharger bracket.

Never had issues with my kit until the pulley went bad, and it just squeaked a lot... 10 dollar fix

Should I have any additional concerns about running my Kartboy lightweight crank pulley pulley with the supercharger? I've noticed people sell off their lightweight pulleys when they go FI claiming that "the difference would be negligible", but would I have any added risk of ruining my belt? I've had the pulley on my car for about 6 months.

I've had the Perrin pulley along with the Vortech and have not had to replace any belts or tensioners.

If the pulley dimensions are the same and the only difference is weight, there shouldn't be a problem. You could contact the pulley manufacturer if you are paranoid.

If it's the same diameter/fitment as oem you should be good to go.

I sent vortech a message about other belt replacement and they said to use gates k060970 which is different then what comes in the kit, k060975. It seems to be a half inch shorter.
