You shouldn't. If there weren't folks willing to do that, you wouldn't have been able to buy one for $15K.

Realistically speaking, don't see much you need to upgrade to new 86. As for waiting for the 2nd gen, I can't say much... but don't expect too much on it.
You can't, or you won't?

I don't. They have a nice warranty for when something moronic happens. People make choices about how they will use things. I'd never add fi to a vehicle, it is just not worth the risk to me. But I also understand buying the least expensive decent example of this car you possibly can to mod. No reason to buy any bells and whistles if they are just going to end up as decorations in your house.

I had already done some modifications when the gen 2 news came out, so maybe a bit different situation. Also, looking at moving this spring so that also affects this as well.

I have stopped putting time/money into modifications for now, and am waiting on an announcement of target specs for the second generation to see if it gets me interested in "upgrading". I have no interest in a Supra at the moment, and I have a perfectly fine, well-maintained, 2013 FRS (also bought new) right now, so why would I spend more money to get the same thing?

Do you have first hand experience with owning a FI fa20 motor that failed?

Personally I wouldn't trade this car in for another version of the same thing.

Either wait or go with a different car.

opinion: I feel terribly bad for people who are so concerned for things unrelated to them that they feel terribly bad for people who enjoy their cars at the price point they got them at with the factory setup they came with.

You need to decide what you enjoy. Do you want to track it? What is wrong with the car in your eyes? Be objective. At the most do a track day and autocross event and go from their. I bought a used 2013 58k obo series 10 and since have added the following

Complete BBK by RR racing
Supercharger
JR dual radiator w/ oil cooler intergrated
Header+CB exhaust
Flex fuel
Wheels/tires
Struts from 2017 and RCE springs
Trd style rear trunk lip
Front splitter
Rear OEM diffuser
Tom's taillight's

And it has completely transformed the car. This car can be a completely blank canvas.

Use one hand to slap the back of the other hand.

No No No I don't need a new car yet !

Read every road test/review of the Supra you can find. It ain't all it was originally cracked up to be....AND it's a Toyota Badged Bimmer.

Personally I'm looking at the Veloster N with performance package.... while continually slapping my hand.

I drove my 2015 FRS today, 50 miles, (it's got 67,500 miles on it)...I came away smiling again. Go figure after 5 years of ownership.

I don't need a new car...No No NO.

Need does not equal want.

When it comes to purchasing, my wants typically kick my needs in the balls.

Originally I planed to go FI and then when I drove the at a while decided there was no reason on earth I needed it.
Then since I pack miles on I was going to trade it for a newer model after 3 years. Now five years in and still with it.
Next I was going to trade it for a Green special edition. They could only get me an AT so no go.
Now I am going to just keep going and see what the second gen looks like. If I don't care for what they offer then the STi will soon be out on the new platform so I have options.
^This (and have also done) and if you do decide to do the “heavy” stuff like FI, you already have some of the supporting “light” mods to handle it. My other advice is if you do decide to mod it, keep it for a while and enjoy it as you’ll lose money on the mods.
