The kids like the sound though, and the marketing for them is gold standard, if you close your eyes you can think your in a old wrx, until you hit the loud pedal, then it is the loudest slowest thing in the neighbourhood
Probably the equivalent of the VT-VX LS-1 GEN3V8`s in the Commodores but they sucked excessive fuel as well

Yeap, my cheap old cammed up 4 door grocery getter is pretty lame at taking the whole family cruising with:

700km hwy, 400km urban fuel consumption

270kwatw and 550nm

Spins through the first 3 gears of its old 4 speed slush box

And it has tow ball for the trailer

Yeap, the SS truly sucks as a daily street car compared to a little low powered twin with a noisy UEL header

So, there is that

Disclaimer: I do like the little twins, but I don't like them when they are all poorly engineered obnoxiously noisey slow things

Whwn it was NA my 86 actually made more power down low with a decatted oem header than it did with a Tomei UEL header, and it lost nothing up high, and it was much quiter to boot

Marketing and Koolaid are hard to argue with though

In saying this the AVO turbo kit I had ran an UEL header, but that was a compromise I could live with, as a turbo is a great bit of kit for helping to muffle the UEL header racket

Happy newyear, stay healthy

UEL for sound and boxer character, EL for power-midrange torque!

You have done well 21/12Mpg and 295hp crank to 360 Whp

Cheers, and that is with 3.91 in the arse and a 2800 stall

It is all thanks to the guy who tuned it though, Steve Bennett the owner of Oztrack, a local performance shop specialising in V8 Holdens

I've based my build of his 11 second car he was running around 2004, fairly quick and very streetable

LS1, Tri-y, 2.5" dual, 223 228, PAC springs, LS7 lifters, OTR intake

https://oztrack.com.au/2013-09-27-06...re-drag-racing

It is currently a fun and handy old thing that hasn't really cost alot to build

In saying that I'm waiting on a quote to build the 4l60e so it doesn't end up full of neutral gears
