Here is what a 2x2 twill carbon fiber weave looks like against my honeycomb. This is a spare roof I had from MPH.

Great DIY. The hexagonal pattern on the carbon looks amazing! Nice job!

Did it change the way the interior sounds?

Damn you are my hero! I've been waiting for a DIY on this as I imagine a shop would charge more for the work than the actual part. Like you the removal and reapplication of the glass would be the hardest part. I will look to see if there is a DIY on that as well because 3M window weld is like $10 bucks it would save $500 bucks in labor.

My motives are for weight reduction. Taking 10lbs off the roof is great. How much total do you think you saved with all the parts??

Very well done thanks!

Thanks man! Yeah, I had about $500 just in glass labor that I didnt know how to do. If you could do that too, it would be very inexpensive.

Total I am about 30lbs lighter than stock just with the carbon fiber parts from Joel. The hood is 7lbs down from about 15lbs OE. Trunk is like 12lbs down from 20lbs OE.

Also If I read correctly you didn't glue down the center of the roof only around the perimeter? Just wonder since the stock has those black glue dots all along the inner subframe.

Correct, perimeter only. The glue dots you are talking about are actually foam to reduce NVH. They dont actually hold anything together on the stock roof skin.
