Just took ownership of a new Camaro SS.....The BRZ will definitely be missed :/

After 3 years of ownership of my 2014 BRZ, it was time to say goodbye. The BRZ is definitely a special car, but after seeing good reviews on the new Camaro SS, I was very curious about it. From the 455 hp to the weight reduction, I just had to test drive one. In late November, I have taken ownership of a 2017 Hyper Blue Camaro 1ss with magnetic ride control:

In terms of power, the Camaro is a beast. The motor has tons of torque and the power is addicting. In terms of handling, it is not light and nimble as the BRZ, but the the Camaro feels more confident and stable in high speed corners. When throwing the Camaro into tight corners, you do feel the extra weight, but powering out of the corners is ridiculously fun. I would say it does handle the tight corners very well for a 3700 lb car, but the BRZ/FRS is more tossable because of its lighter weight. Steering feels just as precise as the BRZ (BRZ does have a bit more road feel) and steering feels nice and heavy once you put it in Track Mode. The BRZ/FRS steering is more on the lighter side. The main gripes that I have about the Camaro is poor visability and sitting up higher. I am going to miss the low COG the BRZ had.

The SS should be an exciting change coming from the BRZ.
You should be able to lose your drivers license with ease now!
I give you one month. Enjoy it while you can.

I don't know what it is about the Camaro but i've never been able to get behind the new modern styling.

Reminds of a concept drawing that just got more and more awkward as the mechanical and safety engineers got to work.

I will say though, the 17 has done a great job taking the bulkier early models and trimming them up a bit.

Congrats! It looks great in blue. Let's just hope you don't have regrets after the honeymoon phase like this guy did after he traded his twin for a Mustang GT

Congrats, it's a good car. The only down side the next years model will look way better. It's just like buying a PC, you know the next years products are going to be better and faster.

Pretty much, I was in your shoes a few months ago, but I was unsure and didn't pull the trigger.

do you notice the difference in how wide the Camaro is? I drove a buddies mustang and that thing was pretty wide to the point where I was having trouble judging where the edges of the car were. but then again, it probably was because I wasn't used to driving big cars (owned an MR2 and then the BRZ)

Sorry for your loss.

I have, though older, a Mustang GT. Never drive it anymore. Just not the fun that I get from my FRS.
Though my Mustang has lots of power, and a smooth as butter shifting Tremec trans, just does not handle curves like the 86 body.

Assume you are much younger than myself. I can understand wanting the muscle car experience. Have fun just going for it for now.

Congrats. I too was very much leaning the Camaro direction after losing my last BRZ to an accident. I test drove 3 different Camaros on 2 different days, and one time test drove a BRZ back to back with it. The Camaro has a lot of merits, and the engine is fantastic no doubt.

But, in the end the BRZ just fits me too well. My next one will be here soon and I will boost fairly quickly with an EB kit. Mind you this will be my 4th BRZ, so I know what i am getting into. But enjoy your Camaro, it is a great car. All the pros or cons are subjective on the driver, it just wasnt the dance partner for me.

The Alpha Camaro SS is in a different league than the older Mustang GTs completely. The Mustang GT is a muscle car. The Camaro SS is a driver's car that also happens to be a muscle car.

Newer models don't always look better than the original. Look at the MY17 86
