Rod bearing failure....oil starvation most likely. With the high number of posts he has I feel he may be a troll.

There’s a whole 0.06% difference in failure rates according to AutoExpress - 14.62% of Subaru v’s 14.56% of Toyota owners reporting mechanical problems in the first 3 years. So, yeah… should have been 100% Toyota drive train, absolutely.

And I was talking about any modern day commercial toyota with their engine+transmission+chassis pairings. The scion tC is typically made form the previous camry manufacturing process. The corolla chassis design is from what, 2001? I don't recall of the top of my head but its definitely not new. Hell, if you get an automatic corolla, it comes with a 4spd automatic. The list goes on. All I'm saying is this. Driving a toyota is a tradeoff. You get rock solid reliability since they barely change anything but its nowhere as fun as Toyota as a company could make things. |

Really.. Worthless numbers considering that toyota must sell 15 times the amount of cars that subaru sells..

I wanna see pics of this blown engine. Also, I want to know how it's going to be handled by Subaru.

@stonenewt
That numerical difference is significant from an engineering perspective, so I'm not quite sure what you are laughing about. Regardless, the statistics still favor Toyota quality. Further, Toyota (and its offshoots) ranks above Subaru in a variety of quality metrics year after year. Anecdotally, my family has had Toyota vehicles run well into 150,000 plus mile territory with nary a problem. I have probably test driven well over 10 Toyota vehicles over the years; not one of them died on me during the test drive like the sole Subaru we test drove. So yeah, I would rather have a Toyota powertrain... |

I don't know...I really enjoyed the older MR2's I drove, and the 97 TT Supra I had the pleasure of taking out one afternoon....

across forester, wrx, and twins this engine seems to have a decent amount of problems even stock. so i agree I would also prefer a decent toyota engine.
