Publishing the Buyer's Name is Normal Here?!?

Clearly the owners of 5x100 =/= 4x100 owners...

I thought maintaining people's privacy was the stuff we all learned as children. Worst case scenario, it is something you learned in elementary school. I stand corrected... got unexpected blowback from what I have been taught to be common sense.

https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143648

As a hypothetical: Am I to understand that in the 5x100 world it would be expected for the seller to publish me as the buyer for a set of uber rare Star Sharks for $4000 and in turn tell a forum full of strangers that I have $4000 to spend AND, as an added bonus, a set of $4000 wheels are inbound to the Bay Area?

'Cause in the 4x100 world, if you ever published the buyer's name instead of just editing/posting 'SOLD', the people that are supposed to be in charge would immediately edit the post and issue a severe warning to the seller.

If so, you 5x100 people are some kind of brand new never-been-seen-before version of daft.

this is going to be a fun thread, but some relevant information before things get out of hand,

when i close out FS ads, i will usually say "sold local pickup for $500" maybe i had listed $600 asking price, but i like to include the final sale price for others researching current market value of parts and what they are actually selling for

for example: a link to a recent fs ad of mine that i changed the thread title to SOLD and added the final sale price as the final post before the mods closed it
i stated "Sold for $280 local pickup via local frs/brz facebook group" adjusted the title to include sold,

https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142060

i dont think i would include the sellers forum alias, or personal name, so i agree with you about that. maybe he was trying to cover his ass in case the sale went sour and the buyer accepted the goods but reported they never arrived or something?

This seems like a non issue. Did you buy something from him and he published your name? If so politely ask him to take it down. If you were not the buyer, why do you care so much? The transaction didn't involve you, so you are sticking your nose into someone else's transaction to make a point? Thats seems a bit silly.

What are you on about exactly?

Especially given that it seems like most/all of those people he mentions were the ones who commented publicly that they were interested and/or PM'ing him.

I even checked thinking maybe he put someone's real name, but no it's just usernames.

So I'm not sure what you're offended by here? It's not like he's doxxing anyone.

*Maybe* if he were selling a super high-profile FI or suspension kit for several thousands of dollars it'd be bad to list a username (but probably not). But for the parts he's selling? Not really.

If someone has the ability to extrapolate your bank information to steal your money from someone putting your username on a forum post, they'd probably have done so anyway to steal from people indiscriminately.

If someone was going to steal from you in person because of things you owned, wouldn't they do that anyway? I get the connection you're making, but it's improbable that anyone would steal from you based on you being listed as the purchaser, even of something rare.

Maybe you're looking at this backwards? Maybe 5x100 people can be trusted, and 4x100 people are so desperate, they stalk owners of high profile car parts waiting for them to leave their garage door open for just a few minutes and steal those awesome Project Kics lug nuts they bought

OP did not buy anything from me or even inquire about anything I'm selling.

If a buyer doesn't want me to post their username, I would be happy to omit that information. It is a common requirement for a buyer to at least post in the sales thread.

Keeping the listed price (or better yet, including the sold price) gives users reference for prices of parts.

Between selling on forums for my hobbies (including a 4x100 car I previously owned), I've never had an issue with my sales thread practices.

Same here. On some of the other forums it is common because we exchange rare items. So if you are looking for something in particular you can PM the user and ask to buy it if it is something you are really looking for. It is not like we are using real names anyway.

I also hate when people put sold and delete the sale price. I use other sale threads as price point references.

As a Mod who keep Member Classified section clean (often), as long as seller follow Member Classified Rules, I don't care how much info put about themselves (seller). I've seen seller post photo of receipt w their name, address and how much it cost em. Only thing they covered were CC #. I have seen seller put very minimal info & a photo.

I pray that members here, we're friendly (to certain degree) & no scammer... but reality is, it's online buy/sell. We all know the risks we take every time we buy/sell. It's a business between seller and buyer. If buyer feels seller is questionable, don't buy. If seller feels buyer is questionable, don't sell. If seller is fishy, report. If buyer is fishy, report. I'm not gonna ask seller/buyer for their background check, CC, DoB & last 4 of SS to buy/sell in this forum.

Hope that clear some questions.

And the irony is that this thread only brought 10X more attention to OP than just having not said anything publicly (pms usually work)...
