Parking Sensors - Dealer Accessory or Factory? Body Kit Issues?

Hey guys,

I have been in touch with the dealer and been informed the following:

- Genuine Toyota Rear Parking Sensors = $650.00 (3 Year Warranty)
- Dealer Fitted Front and Rear Parking Sensors = $1200 (5 Year Warranty)

For people that are planning on fitting body kits and alike onto their cars (Five Axis, TRD, Greedy etc etc) is it worth getting the sensors fitted once the car arrives and once we have our body kits installed?

Or are the body kits fitted in such a way that the sensors wont need to be moved regardless?

Or is it worth saving the hassle and just and see if a reversing camera can be fitted to work on the GTS's screen?

Don't know about the other stuff but the demo GTS I drove had been fitted by the dealer with a reverse camera that came on through the Sat Nav screen. Not sure of price though.

That's the retail price of those items mate. The bodykits you named shouldn't interfere with the signal from the sensors as the sensors themselves are usually fitted in the bumpers. As for the camera in the nav unit, that's a very common install and usually included in the price of the camera & fit; according to one of our fitters the camera plugs straight into the back of the genuine toyota nav unit. Just make sure you know in advance where the camera is going to be positioned as there have been some really crappy install jobs that i've seen on the forums.

Depends on whether it's genuine or non-genuine but a rough guide would be about $695 fitted and hooked up to the nav unit in the case of a genuine camera.

Wow that's huge. Subaru was ~$370 and I thought that was a total rip-off.

$695 for a Toyota genuine reverse camera is about the going rate including fitting. Was the one you got from Subaru a branded genuine Subaru accessory? Also, don't forget that depending on the car/deal most pricing is negotiable anyway. I could have listed a much cheaper price then what happens if the guy who asked the question couldn't get it for that? Better to overestimate than underestimate.

There are cheaper aftermarket options available but put it this way, if someone goes for genuine and pays a little extra for it then it's peace of mind they're paying for because as far as i know all genuine accessories fitted prior to delivery have the same warranty as the car and if anything on the car happens to go wrong you only have to take it to one place to have it rectified. That and you know what you're paying for is going to fit, look good, etc as they have been designed to be used on that car.

PS Was the $370 including fitting or just the part price?

I would never let Toyota install something like that on my car. If you can't do it yourself, get reputable car audio place to do it. They will actually take care of your car, and save you a fortune.

Not with a BRZ in Australia (maybe NZ too? not sure). Here you must order online, and the price is what the price is. Not sure where the 370 number is from... Subaru branded reversing camera = $468.58

Not sure where that dealer is getting their parts or prices from..?

Genuine Toyota colour coded rear parking sensors are roughly $400 (inc GST) fitted at my dealership. Same part number as the ones advertised on the Toyota website as a genuine accessory for the 86. $1200 seems really steep for front sensors, especially since you won't receive any warranty on them being aftermarket.

I agree with a post above about getting a Reverse camera from an auto-electrician/audio shop instead. Since there is no genuine reverse camera you'll lose nothing by going external.

I personally would get the dealer to fit your rear sensors, then shop around for front sensors and camera.

Ok, after a bit more research i found there is no genuine Reverse Camera for the 86. I just spoke with a supplier i deal regularly with and he can organize a Reverse Camera hooked up to the Nav for
$440.00 incl. GST incl. Fitting.

Details as follows:

Suby from SA Mobile (NSW) 0416 201 030
sales@samobile.com.au
www.samobile.com.au

The camera is the Eclipse brand which are commonly found in other Toyotas as a genuine accessory (Toyota Branded in the other cars of course).

Hope that helps.

+1

I can highly recommend Suby as well. His work is neat. I have used his services in the past and will be doing so when my 86 arrives in two weeks.

BTW excited with 86 less than two weeks away!!!

I have asked the dealer to install the Genuine Toyota Reversing Sensors for my order. Ill look at getting the camera added later on, as its not a genuine part.
