AVO DBW electronic throttle controller Setup
I just made a quick video of setting up the DBW controller, as that's the most common question I get.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYijoYmeZXU&feature=player_embedded"]AVO DBW Controller Setup[/ame] Actually installing the unit is quite easy, other than the fact you have to lie upside down underneath your dash in a fairly tiny space. 1. Locate the wiring harness at the top of the Throttle Pedal Box, connected to, of course, your throttle pedal. Unclip that harness, and clip the supplied male portion of the T harness into the OEM harness, and the female portion of the T harness into the pedal box assembly. 2. Attach the supplied OBD-II port adapter to the OBD-II port. That supplies power to the main unit. 3. Place the controller itself whereever you prefer on your dash, hook it up to the main unit, and get ready to set it up! |

Well, the one thing it doesn't do is add power, though it may give the feeling of more power. Drive By Wire electronic controllers do just that, adjust the dbw throttle response to pedal input.
It works via install of a t-harness that plugs inbetween the oem harness and pedal box, which allows the dbw controller to modulate the voltage output. It's similar to the SI-drive on Subaru Legacies, except there is a bit more adjustability. I don't know if anybody here has tried it, though there is a few fr-s/brz owners that I've sold to already. Sold many of them to Subaru owners over the past year+ though, you can probably find more feedback on the Subaru forums. Last edited by AVOturboworld; 09-10-2012 at 03:45 PM. |

Would this help dial in the lower pedal voltages to be a little more peppy and not quite as "jumpy" at low speeds?

From personal experience, yes. I'm finding it easier to rev-match now thanks to that.

Very interested in this product.. Can you tell me what happens if the unit shorts/malfunctions while driving? Is all power lost or does the unit revert back to stock settings? Knowing this thing will cycle every day once plugged in, I may be a bit leery if there is a short or another anomoly that renders my throttle to mush.

I had something like this on my 2011 Fit. It doesn't add power, per se, however, it allows you to zero in on when you want the throttle plate open during certain driving conditions (i.e. passing someone), etc.
Paul - where did you get it and how much? I like this unit better than the one I had on my Fit. I'd be interested in getting one. |

May be it is a stupid question. If I buy one now and put that in my impreza. Can I yank it out later and reprogram it to a brz when I get one?

Yes, actually, you can. The Subaru BRZ/FR-S is using the same setup as the 2008+ Impreza/STI models.

wow awesome! its like an electric "throttle cable" adjuster, unlike the old days where we all had to adjust the old school throttle cables with adjusting the nuts lol.
