It's just annoying seeing the same old dumb comments over and over "oh, the S2000 doesn't have great feel"..... come on, give me a break. It still has very, very sharp reflexes, double wishbone suspension, almost no body roll, excellent turn-in....... and obviously "feel" changes drastically when you go with wider tires & more sticky tire compounds. It's a rather weak argument. It's similar to people going around saying the 86 isn't worth it due to the low power and basic, economy-ish front strut + rear multilink design. It's not that simple.

I have both cars. The 86 is more nimble than the S2K and the chassis handles extra power with grace.

I have a ~500hp FT86 and a ~800hp S2000. What more proof do I need when I drove both cars?

Define more "nimble"... I own an AP2 S2000 and have driven the FR-S and BRZ. The S2000 has sharper turn in, quicker rotation due to having less weight in the front of the car & a shorter wheel base, flatter cornering due to the superior suspension design, etc.... Having driven both cars & knowing those facts, I am at a loss for how one could consider the S2000 the less nimble of the two cars... Nimble to me means quicker handling response & being able to change directions more quickly, and the S2K definitely does that.

I'm not saying the S2000 is "bad". It's a great driving car. However it "feels" heavier. The 86 feels easier to throw around and recover when it starts to slide the back.

Both cars are on an OEM suspension... so the S2K suspension could just be aging as it is 15 years old (01 AP1 here) and due for an upgrade if it wasn't basically dedicated to going fast in a straight line at this point.

I wouldn't call that being more nimble. That's having a longer wheelbase and a more front-biased weight distribution AKA being more drift-friendly.

I'm a bit late to the discussion. But try sitting in a new MX-5. They are small and made for old people. It doesn't even come in the best color. I like the interior though. The captain controls and big touchscreen are intuitive but also very distracting. A Club sport is the enthusiast model but then you're paying a significant amount of money for it.

I think $17k is a good price for an used FRS with a clean title. Especially when you know all the history of it. It's your time/money though.

I would disagree personally. My S2000 changes directions better in my opinion on OEM suspension with just a FSB and tires (225s) then my BRZ did with Bilstein shocks, RCE springs, sway bars, plates, arms and a lot of camber with 255s. What tire pressures and tires was the S2000 running? Depending on the tire we have noticed the pressure plays a huge difference on the sloppiness and direction change feeling of the S2000.

To each their own of course

Agree with this. I think some people have very different personal meanings for terms like "good handling", "nimble", etc.... just because cars like the S2000, RX7, Miata, etc. rotate faster & give you less time to correct oversteer doesn't mean they are worse handling cars. That's just a side effect of them having different designs which are more optimized for grip driving and changing directions quickly than hooning around & controlling slides (like Silvias/240sxs, FR-S/BRZs, etc.).

I haven't done any kind of driving that requires me to turn on the S2000 in over a year, it gets up and goes straight really fast at 800hp and on a 275 Mickey Thompson at 18psi of air.

lol
