I like playing the Elder Scrolls series. All the games are amazing, especially Skyrim and Morrowind.

After a couple years I reinstalled rfactor 2.

It looks a little better, drives the same and has a little new content from the new studio. The biggest surprise is how little modded content there is. A bunch of cars and trucks from years ago are finished now, but there's damn little (rf1 had TONS of mods).

Exactly. When I build a gaming computer I'm in it for the long haul, so I'm aiming for what I think I'll need 4 to 5 years from now, not today.

There hasn't been a breakthrough in gaming engines for a loooooong time. Truly no need to be buying overpowered hardware unless you're doing more than gaming.

With a locked i5, a 1070, and full SSD, I'm sure my PC performs on par, if not outperforms many poorly optimized systems people have here that they tend to just throw parts and $$$ at.

Gaming doesn't require much, believe me, you can play most games on an i3 with great results.

Now if you are trying to hit 4k gaming, that's a different story, but for me at least, not until games are being render in a native 4k with brand new engines, there isn't a point.

don't get me wrong I built a gaming PC but it's not top tier. saved lots of cash getting a few older options. plus my friend who is an IT director hooked me up with a new motherboard and processor so it really cut my costs.

I should be good for a few more years. GTX1060 is plenty to run my Oculus Rift

If you buy enough power, you can play for years as you slowly cut the resolution for newer games. Since consoles took over gaming, the demands of software have increased more slowly. Companies design for the X Box One and Playstation 4, which both go back to 2013. Games will start jumping in requirements in 2020, when the next gen consoles start shipping.

No I don't go top tier either, usually one level down, that seems to be where the best bang for the buck is. My 8 year old system with a 2 year old video card runs most games fine in 1080, 1 monitor, although I have found I've had to start cutting back some details. I'm about due for a refresh but it will probably have to wait until the end of the year.

Even that PC passes the benchmark tests for the Vive, so in theory I could do VR with it.

Absolutely on point, I was going to say the same myself. Now with so few games aimed specifically at the PC market, they are all designed for console limitations first, then moved to PC.

I'm playing Total War Three Kingdoms. And on max with extreme unit sizes it chugs. I watched a slideshow battle during a siege where the BAI used fire arrows to torch my towers. First time in three years I've had that happen. Campaign diplomacy is finally worth doing.
