Quick question.

I'm in 4th and see a red light. I put my grear in N and let the car runs freely. Rpm will be back to idle and the car will slowdown slowly. Green comes on. Now. How do you shift it back to 3rd?

Clutch in. Rev up/put in 3rd. Release clutch and go likes downshift. I dont feel good when do this. When downshift. I only need to rev 6-700rpm over certain rpm. Bring the rev from idle to 2k-2k500 is kinda hard to me.

Clutch in. Put ib 3rd. Slowly release clutch/add gas just likes you go from 1-2-3-4. I fell better when doing this way.

Just asking of there's another way.

Free revving the engine to a moderate RPM (like 2.5-3K) is pretty light work for the car.

In the 2nd way you describe you are making the driveline do more of the work than just the engine in scenario 1 to match speeds. IMO your better off getting the engine where it needs to be, then engaging the proper gear.

Also, I don't take my car out of gear when coming up to a light until it's about to bog so if the light does turn green I can just go.

I'll get run over by cars that actually have power if I use all the gears getting on the freeway. I'm already getting my doors blown off by Kia Optimas and Dodge Caravans.
Please go rinse the sand out of your vagina...I wasn't talking to you. Pay for my gas...boo hoo hoo...I drive 500 miles a week...waaaahhhh!!!!

why rev match at all? why is this necessary? haven't done this in over 40 years, with the advent of "helical" cut gears, and synchos!.. as long as you are completely releasing the clutch when you shift,it's all that's required to shift into another gear!..

You quoted my post. To me, that implied you were talking to me. Additionally I don't really think I seemed that upset. Lastly, it's a free country and I'll have sand in my vagina if I so choose.

Off is the general direction in which you should fuck.

I agree that you don't have to, and I don't at AutoX often.

However I've already got 28K miles in 8 months. I plan to use this car as my daily for another three years (if you do the math that adds up to about 130K). Keeping ware down on ware parts is something that's important to me.

yeah! do this as well and have done so for years and years in all manual transmissions i have owned. you are shifting form 4th (power gear) to
6th (overdrive) why go into (direct drive, one to one, 5th) when you can bypass it,and shift less.

ic! never really thought there should be anything but "minimal" wear over time,as long as your shifts are smooth, and no grinding is present!

I think all the parts are robust enough... but how many of us really know yet? I doubt anyone is up over 75K yet.

Not really... lol. I think I thought you were someone else. But I'm also not sure what I was thinking.

this is correct! key phrase here is "lugging the engine" yes! this creates unnecessary wear, and should be avoided.if you are NOT lugging the engine,REGARDLESS of what gear you are in,then it is of no concern.

to each his own! that's kewl! i would ''suggest" you do something else with your right hand, (i'm ambidextrous) but it would be inappropriate ,and the main reason why i dislike
''slush" boxes so...just sayin'
