Or maybe it's because the metal on JUST the rail isn't strong enough to hold the weight of someone in an accident.

You shouldn't need 9 mm for that.

@Racecomp Engineering

I saw in another thread you mentioned installing the SR7's and gaining 40mm of headroom - do you have another thread where you have your full review / any guidance or can you add it here for posterity?

I've written something up but haven't posted it...partially because I haven't taken "nice" photos yet and I need to vacuum my interior.

I'll put it up in a new thread today and update with pics later.

Posted a write up here:

Note this is for 1st gen...these seat rails do fit driver's side for 2nd gen and provide a 30mm drop (vs 40mm for 1st gen). The rails they have for passenger side are listed as +10mm. However...that's Japan so driver's side is right side and I don't know if it's reversed for USDM.

I'm 6'5'' and I fit just fine (without a helmet) in first gen 86 (European "Drift" version - no heated seats).

I recently drove an GR86 "Premium" (with heated seats) and I don't fit in it as well as in first gen car (my hair is touching the roof liner) and I was wondering if that's the case because of the heated seats in the GR I tested (that might increase thickness) or is a gen1 vs gen2 difference?

Took on the triple bubble cut this past weekend. Worked out great - I highly recommend it for those that can stomach the idea of cutting up the interior.
Why not just shave off some of the foam and plastics that act like spacers for the headliner and glue the top of the bubble to the roof? Or glue some strong magnets to the liner and use them to pull the roof liner up/close to the roof (assuming the roof is not aluminium)?

I'm 6'4" and had plenty of space with a helmet in first gen, second gen is definitely tighter, my helmet touches the roof now. I think the seat sits a little higher but it also seems to have stiffer foam.

Daily driving my hair occasionally touches the headliner now if my hair is having a bad day, haha.
