thoughts on cold air intake ?
Not sure if this is the right thread but i wanna know what yours thoughts are on cold air intake.
Im wanting to remove the sound generator and clean up the engine bay a bit. I know i can buy caps to cap off the sound generator, but im tossing up between replacing the intake hose, or getting a whole new air box system. Thanks |

PITA to scale the maf in tune compared to stock airbox but well, a little bit more air enters on higher rpm

There are quite a few thread on this topic.
Grimmspeed is generally considered one of the best options for power and works with the stock tune. Trd is a factory backed part and works with the stock tune and looks like a stock piece. Cleans up the engine bay nicely. To get the most benefit a tune is required with any direction chosen. It is generally accepted that intakes don't do much for this platform and if your only goal is a little dress up and cleaner bay you could easily do a silicone intake pipe and get the results you're after. |

Modified snorkle, noise maker delete and Mishimoto intake hose and your done.
All the added noise you could want, and none of the noise you don't. You don't really need the Mishimoto intake, it just helps clean up after the noise maker delete. Stock air filter is fine for NA. Opinions may vary. Hp and Tq claims on NA can be quite funny though, all the my "dyno say" stuff is quite a read.

1) stock intake is cold air intake too, btw
2) stock air intake is of rather efficient design. From it's bottlenecks .. probably only a bit too resistive air filter .. which was improved in MY2017 kouki, but on older twins can be simpler "fixed" with aftermarket $50 dropin air filter, netting half or even 2/3rds of aftermarket full intake gains for 1/8th of price. Using stock intake doesn't prevent one from deleting soundtube too, there are simple & cheap plugs for it too 3) if you are still set on getting complete intake, imho worth getting one, which doesn't mess with MAF sensor readings to force leaning of air fuel ratio to artificially ramp up power with stock ecu tune at expense of safety, but loose "extra" gains when that MAF scaling is rescaled back. Most often i've heard mentioned as with close to stock MAF scaling TRD & Grimmspeed intakes, so probably i'd consider one of those. Though my primary choice still says with stock intake+aftermarket dropin filter. |

Don't see the point the stock intake is very efficient honestly. Plus if you tune with OFT then you have to get a custom tune and mess with tables because of the intake.

Aftermarket CAI are one of the best marketed items
that cost a bomb and do little to nothing. I admit I modded my snorkel and use a Mishimoto intake tube though, the modified snorkel for the noise, the intake because I didn't want to use a cap. No power difference was expected, just more induction noise

I bought my car with a CAI already on it. When I logged with OFT it was seeing -8% to -10% LTFT. It was ugly and required much logging to correct the scale.

Throw in a new panel filter and be done with it. Spend your $$ elsewhere
