Do I have brake pad left?
I took off the wheel, and tried to inspect the brake pad.
Never owned a car where the entire pad was so hidden. I couldn't see anything. So, I looked at the peep hole, but can only see one side. I don't know if that is the pad, or the backing metal. Also, I can't even see the other pad on the right. Are we to assume both pads wear at the exact same rate? This is what I saw. Is this pad or metal plate? I can't imagine so much pad left after 30k miles. Last edited by LudwigMiles; 08-20-2017 at 08:36 PM. |

from left to right
brown stuff is pad, orange stuff is rust on the edge of the rotor, then the hollow center vanes of the rotor then you can see the edge of the right half the rotor Yes, OE pads are very much long life pads if you don't beat 'em up, I wouldn't be surprised if most people could get >60k out of OE pads. Removing the caliper to get a good look at the pads is extremely easy if you already have the wheel off, two bolts. (provided the bolts aren't seized to hell) http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24614 (you can see photobucket clicks by right clicking and getting the image url and then pasting that into your browser bar to see it) ((hey @PMok update your pictures on your DIY)) Last edited by strat61caster; 08-21-2017 at 09:58 AM. |

That pad is thick as hell, it almost looks new.
I can't believe it. I guess a light car does not use pads. Esp. when driven conservatively. |

Driving style matters too. Manual transmissions tend to engine brake better as well. The OE pads are long life/low dust too..

I just changed my front pads at 110,000 miles and had plenty left too. Probably could have gone another 100,000.

Ok, it looks like I won't be needing to replace the pads anytime soon.
Next time I have the car jacked up, I will learn how to remove the pad anyways. |

Discs lasted another 10k and where already 5k driven beyond their 22mm limit. So, without the track day I would estimate, 50k on a set of pads and 50k on a set of discs. Do the US models get the same pads? Over here they are high friction Pagid pads (and discs) I believe, which squeal frequently under light braking.
