Porsche and Audi have been sucked into the VW vortex. Porsche has halted sales of the 2014-2016 diesel Cayenne SUV. The same goes for the Audi Touareg and all the other diesel Audi models. Seems the cheat was installed on all diesel engines, not just the 4 cylinder models.

Audi and Porsche both claim to have had no knowledge of the illegal software.

In addition, it was announced that another 500,000 VW models are affected.

New news about old news.

Yup. I totally didn't see that one coming. Not at all.

My brother, interesting person that he is, just picked up a Toerag Hybrid. Boggles the mind.

Now the question is how to get current owners to comply with the recall as they can expect both lower fuel efficiency and lower performance after the "fix."

Lot's of hand-wringing going on behind closed doors.

Interesting article about how VW's cutthroat culture may have led to this. Lots of good insight from Bob Lutz (somewhat surprisingly).

Lutz is a genius. Nothing good from him is surprising.

He tends to be very hit or miss for me. Sometimes will have really keen insight from his years in the industry, and then other times will say some head-scratchers. I thought this article was the former though, very astute observations about VW corporate culture.

Bringing this back from the dead using the New Info spell...

They've cracked the code on how VW did this. Basically they hid the code in a section of code dealing with engine noise.

That’s arguably a good thing, as it tells consumers how products are evaluated and how the results are calculated. While most people just look at the final numbers, you can use information on how tests are performed to perform more precise calculations on which vehicle or vehicles might be right for your own use cases.
Full article here.

The article also says that this was in as many as 400 different ECUs, not just this one model.
