Catfish - Miata based kit car
I love Miatas and this kit seems to improve on all the great aspects of them. This thing will be really quick in stock form so just imagine it with an LSx engine. It is 300 lbs lighter than a Miata, can handle taller drivers, and wider tires. It can be built for under 20K. I think this will be on my short list for a project car. Oh ya, this company is also releasing a new model sometime this month. I have no affiliation with this company and only found out about this car last week but seeing as we all love lightweight quick cars I thought you might be interested.

I like the looks, but if you are going to build something lightweight from a miata... go with an Exomotive Exocet kit and drop 1000 lbs off a miata.... for less than $10k total.

I love the idea of the exocet but as a married man I also need a car to pass the wife test and trying to convince her that we will have fun on the weekends driving around in a car that looks like "it is missing pieces" is going to be difficult. However, the new body panels on the Exocet are very aggressive looking which I like.

Wow. There's an example of now not to drive car right there. Lots of bad habits and poor technique. Watching that video made me cringe.

Funny this thread is just popping up. I am looking at either doing a turbo Exocet or an AE86 for my next build. I have been researching both like a fiend.
The Exocet and Catfish look extremely cool and all you need it a beat Miata and $8000 and you have one hell of a machine. All the looks of something different with the familiarity and aftermarket support of the Miata.

Nevermind, looks like he's got a handful of days in the car, that's pretty rough, dude needs a stern instructor. (Not that I'm any record setter). Not an inspiring lap to show off the car, that 11 & 1 o'clock hand position The only advantages shown over the FRS was straight line, the Cobra lifted and didn't seem warmed up (unless those really are that slow through the corners) and the Miata was held up by the Cobra. On paper looks pretty cool for a toy but that's a crowded market with Ariel, Caterham, Factory Five, Beck and on and on... |

Big turbocharged/supercharged LS motor makes the handling less than ideal though...too nose heavy. Will need big aero to get some balance back and as much weight moved as far rear as possible...
