In your best intrest I wouldn't change from factory flywheel. It's not even a money thing but a completely counterproductive mod.

If you want something to spool your turbo at Super low RPM I would do a turbo back 3". I can Gopro a 2700rpm spool gaining boost via a aem failsafe gauge to prove.

Personally I enjoy having a lightweight flywheel on my cars. But both are supercharged not turboed. If I was faced with a very expensive unit. I would just keep it original. My girlfriend however preferred the stock one, because she felt it was a bit more streetable.

I've never had an upgraded flywheel or clutch but the deceased load should make the engine spin up faster thereby creating boost faster. You lose inertial mass that keeps the engine spinning when you're not on the gas or when you launch. HOWEVER since you're FI I'm guessing you won't notice it as much so my recommendation is: if you can find a clutch that fits your lightweight wheel, keep it. If you can't, don't worry about it too much

Keep the OEM flywheel. Check out South Bend Clutch stage 2 daily or endurance

I had a LWFW in my previous car and I loved it. it was a Fidanza 10lb FW and there was barely any chatter. no problems driving it either as a daily. I think a LWFW for this car would be great as well since I hate how slow the revs drop when going from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. it was one of the few things that took me the longest to get used to when I first bought the BRZ. however, it's all personal preference IMO.

-If I wouldn't notice the difference switching back, the I would use the Exedy Stage 2 and go back to the OEM flywheel.
I have the Exedy Stage 2.5 (2.5 is the revised stage 2 design after issues they had with the original design.) I have the S2.5 with their flight weight flywheel. Exedy stopped included the flywheel with their clutch after complaints about chatter. They now sell it seperately for 'racing use.'

If I ever had my trans out and was keeping my clutch I wouldn't hesitate to swap back in the oem flywheel. Unfortunalty should my trans come out anytime soon then I'm just going with the twin disc setup and never worring about slipping again.

Gah.. so much mixed results here. Another heavily debatable topic where there is no right or wrong, only trial and error to find your preference :/

I have a Holinger sequential gearbox and Motec ECU on my daily driver. Talking with the guys at Holinger, when they were developing the gearbox with the same ECU they couldn't get the throttle blip for downshifts responsive enough to work in practice on the OEM flywheel. Works a charm on a lightweight flywheel.

Their car was NA and mine is turbo and throttle blip works great. I have a Mantic single stage clutch/flywheel. Not sure this is a solid answer, just another data point for reference.

....and the best thing is that now I only use the clutch to go from neutral to first. It's flat shifting without the clutch in all gears up.and down. Mwhahahaha, couldn't.help myself by adding this sorry boys!

This thread popped up in my feed so I'll re-comment: since my last post 3 years ago, I've gotten a Fidanza aluminum flywheel. Felt great, made shifting smoother (rev match was more natural), and no chatter at all.

Also, I spun my bearings and LS swapped with a Monster Clutch lightweight (18#s!) flywheel. Super happy with it too. I never drove the LS with the stock flywheel but I know I don't want my RPM dropping any slower than it is
