Question Check Engine light and Traction Control Light

I have seen this issue pop up on my car once or twice before.

The traction and check engine lights turn on and I can no longer use cruise control. It will stay on like this for a few days and then turn off on its own.

I notice the car kind of jerks when coming to a stop, like it downshifts into 1st gear improperly.

Any ideas? It's a 2013 FR-S automatic.

Without knowing what the code is, there is no real way to tell you what's causing it. It could be a wheel speed sensor, or something else.

I'll check out those links on my break. Guess I need to go get it hooked up and find out what's going on. Reoccurring issue.

That is what is called "limp mode". It is intended to prevent pushing the car too hard when the code is for something that could be serious and cause further damage. Get the fire read asap.

Well, went to autozone and got things read. It points to Replace Oil Control Valve (OCV), but after he spoke to his boss he said to take it to the dealership.

Apparently the code P000A - Engine Position System Performance - Bank 1 being shown isn't a code they read? :/

Ya I wouldn't wait to long if it involves oil in these cars!

Never take ANY advice from the flunkies at Autozone. Get the code, but they have no clue what it means. And neither do you. A CEL code doesn't tell you what the prob is, only what the symptom is. You may get a code for one thing but the issue is something totally different causing the other code to be tripped.

DO NOT disconnect the battery either. That only erases important info a tech needs- runtime when CEL happened, temps, RPM, etc and it also erases history that the tech may need AND can erase other codes that the orig CEL was masking. The code is coming and going most likely because it needs a certain set of parameters to be met to do the test that is failing and you don't meet those parameters very often.

When you get a CEL with this car: CEL comes on. Traction/SC lights come on. Car goes into reduced power mode. Cruise Control disabled.

I know I am due for an oil change, but I don't expect this to be a resolution since I have seen this before.

i have the exactly same issue. Check engine light stays on and VSC will turn on/off for no reason in smooth/dry roads. Car jerks one time when coming to a stop around 10 MPH. This happens every time. The codes are P0171, P0700, and P0100.

If I clear the codes, the symptom of the jerk goes away. However, the check engine light will come back after some driving and the jerk comes back.

Brought it toyota dealership last week. They completed the valve spring recall job. They said it is the fuel injectors causing the P0171, system too lean, and asking $1800 for replacing 2 fuel injectors. I dont buy it.

Anyone has similar issue? Mine is 2013 auto

update: took the car in to dealership again with different service manager. they replaced the air fuel sensor for $430. The problem seems fixed now.

Jumping in on this Check Engine and VSC lights issue also, that started yesterday. Have a 2013 auto FR-S and just had the Valve Spring Recall work done in January. Has anyone had any resolution?

fwiw, I had the valve spring recall done, and when I brought the car home, i got the CEL and TC lights, it went straight back to the dealer. They are still replacing parts, trying to solve it.

I had the check engine, traction lights come on a few weeks ago.
Engine code was P1449. That's the only code that pop up. On a rainy day I broke the end lose a few times and that's what made the check engine light pop up.

My mechanic did a once over, didn't really know why it pop that code. He cleared it top off the fluids, and the car is running fine. The engine light has not come on yet.

Other than that me and the mechanic been scratching our heads as to why or how. Eh?
