FYI, one of those plastic caps that plugs new air-tool's inlets works beautifully. Just pull out the grey elbow from the motor side, install plug, push back into firewall. Done! Thanks OP!

The good thing about the plugs the OP has is you don't have to even pull out the grey elbow from the firewall. The outer part of the plug fits between the edge of the hole and the sound tube. a perfect fit.

Thanks man, only .65 cents. Probably the easiest car mod I've ever done. I like the tube but I do a lot of conference calls so this is a big help.

For some reason, 7/8 plug was too small for me. I ended up using an 1" plug with a rubber o-ring. It clicked in and is sealed up real good.

When paying for my car I encountered this pearl of wisdom in regards to some comments I made:

finance guy: "where did you learn that?"
fistpoint: "the internet"
finance guy: "1.6% of what you read on the internet is true"
fistpoint: "lol, enjoy your AOL", and "don't go to quilting/sewing websites for news or car repair info then"
.
.
.
Long live the internet! Halfway through this thread I ran out and bought the exact piece the OP suggested from Lowes. Followed the pics and installed in seconds. Thanks.

Well I'd like to thank all the guys that looked into this and found a solution. I've always had this nagging thought that the car just sounded off. The engine noise was just... odd.

Stopped by Lowe's, grabbed the 7/8 plug, popped it in right there in the parking lot. Fit is perfect, like it was made for it.

Sound is 100% better. The car now sounds real to me and you just hear the engine noise coming from the actual engine under the hood.

Again, thanks guys for such a simple and easily solution!

I grabbed about 5 of them a few days ago to stock up. If I see anybody locally needing them, I will pass them out. This mod is totally worth it.
