Some of the converted van prices are insane: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto...917020846.html

Ok, there's a difference, but not 80k+ worth.

I suck at carpentry and even with a set I would probably screw it up!

Oh that wasn't mine. It is actually better than what I would have built.

I typed this all up not sure if needed some advice or if I just needed to properly organize my thoughts. Now having written it I'm pretty sure I know what I'm gonna do, but I'm still interested in hearing other's thoughts so here goes:

I have a motorcycle in my garage I'd like to sell, an 06 Buell Blast. But, it is currently in less than stellar condition. I don't know if I should just cut my losses and sell it as-is, or fix some of its problems and hope that means I can get more money for it when I do sell it.

Bike's problems (in no particular order):

1. I don't like riding it, and I have another bike that I DO like riding. So, it has sat for about a year. Last week, when I did the oil change on my other bike, I attempted to start this one. Starter cranks and the engine turns over, but the battery is too weak to start it right now. I THINK the bike will start if I jump it or properly charge the battery, but it might need a new one.

2. Not sure if the sitting has gunked up the carb or not. I would think it wouldn't be too bad as it did have some fuel stabilizer in it and ran okay when I parked it but who really knows. Also, my motivation for troubleshooting carb issues with this bike is basically zero.

3. Bike is not currently inspected. If it starts and all that after charging or replacing the battery, the only thing it'll need is tires. Tires + labor will almost definitely cost more than the bike is worth, but I feel like selling it in legally rideable condition makes it a lot easier to sell.

4. Bike has a small oil leak. I definitely won't be fixing that myself as I have no desire to tear down the engine of a bike I don't even want to ride to replace whatever gasket needs replacing. Plus, the money I'd invest having a shop fix it would definitely not be recouped by the selling price. So this one is probably just gonna be unfixed. I'll probably just do an oil change and call it a day.

My current plan of action after writing all this (I think...) is to charge up the battery and see if I can get it started/running. If I can do that without tearing apart the carbs, I'll just list it for $1000, no inspection, bald rear tire and all. First person to offer me $900 will get it. I'll take a bit of a loss on it as the cost of lessons learned just to get it out of my garage. If it doesn't sell, I'll get it inspected (and the tires replaced), then relist it at $1500 and sell it to the first person to offer $1200.

Seems like a reasonable plan to me, if you have no urgent need to sell it.

Depends upon how much you value your time. Ultimately you're taking about a $300 bottom difference, and a quick search of tire prices on an 06 Buell Blast (unless I did it wrong somehow) plus inspection will be over half of that. Assuming it starts with some juice and needs nothing else for inspection.

Your current plan sounds like what I would do, but that's with the disclaimer that I really am quite lazy.

Yeah, there's no real "urgent need" other than the fact that I want a new bike, and have to sell this one first to do that lol.

Appreciate the input. I am also quite lazy, even lazier when it comes to this bike lol, so your advice is sage.

Lost a good portion of my right index fingertip to a router bit on Saturday. Not very fun, can't recommend.

My dad did that once. If I had known I would have suggested you avoid doing that. I hope you heal alright.

On the bright side, you might be allowed a name change to "routerbite". That is something I do recommend.

This is terrible timing. Still trying to convince myself not to get a motorcycle license. And I was winning too.
