You damaged your tranny on a stock setup with one bad shift? What happened? and how did you determine it was damaged? Way curious.

Oh, it was straight up abuse. The shift was good but immediately afterward I detected a faint whine from the input side (follows engine speed in all gears except fifth) I'm the only one that can hear it.

Flat foot 1-2 mid-burnout. Gotta catch it while the wheels are still spinning.

Is that not what 90% of us daydreamed about when deciding to buy this car, though?

Of course! There are right and wrong ways to do it. Some transmissions handle abuse better than others. TL70 is not one of them.

BTW, I saw your other thread. It's a good question that has been asked and answered with varying degrees of accuracy. This particular transmission is an oddball. Without drifting off into the weeds too far, just consider that the input section has unusually high rotating inertia for its size. At the same time, it's particularly sensitive to viscous drag.

It spins forever when it's warm and is a bitch about missed shifts when cold.

If you don't pause in neutral for upshifts, it will behave nicely and sink into the next gear with minimal effort.

If you are uncomfortable with the amount of force required to downshift, double-clutch is your friend. It WILL get better. My syncros were still breaking in after 10 Kmi.

I am a 10%er then. If I wanted to do burn outs there are a dozen cars I would have bought over this one and have never, ever been interested in drift it.

Hey, to each their own I admit I'm mostly interested in track days and cornering, not making smoke...but be honest...feeling the rear end step out just a hair on a good corner exit doesn't make you grin just a little? eh?

Actually, it makes me cringe a bit - I'm never sure if the nanny is going to take care of the situation or I should -

I've thought about that. This is the first car that I've ever had that had a ESC system. My miata only had ABS, and so after driving RWD cars for many years, I knew what to do when things "got out of control".

Now, with my aging eyes and reflexes, I've decided to allow the nannies to help out.

Winter driving is even more fun. My friend didn't believe me until I took him for a ride in a snowstorm and the car was more sideways than straight.
