I believe anything above 7000k becomes unusable light as it become more purple.

For those who are converting from standard halogen to HID, please use projectors. Nothing more annoying and unsafe as someone who's blatantly blinding oncoming traffic with erratic beam angles.

As he doesn't have a retrofit, you're comparing your nice, wide, LEGAL beam to his glaring, illegal, hotspot from hell that's 3x brighter than the factory halogen.

I can overpower most HID's with a 100w halogen... the difference is 100w isn't actually legal, and they'll have a much better spread of light.

Boils down to why HID kits are illegal...

I highly value a headlamp's ability to cover sufficient space so as to not compromise my safety when driving briskly. Especially in mountain or canyon roads which I do daily. Thus, in past cars I'll be looking at aftermarket projection units, xenon conversions, brighter bulbs, adjustments e.g.

Not so with the BRZ. The brightness of the BRZ lights and coverage area are spot on. The only time I need to slow down is when I can't use my highs due to oncoming traffic.

Oem HIDs are around 4300k, and no more than 35w. That's why they appear less bright. HIDs in reflector housings will also appear brighter, as will almost any aftermarket HIDs, as many people will use at least 6000k, which is close to pure white and the brightest color output, and some even use 55w which I don't recommend as they're much more prone to not working.. My shop won't even install 55w. I'd recommend going with a 35w 6000k HID with canbus digital ballasts. If u want a slight blue, go with 8000k.

No..?? Don't put out false information. 55w work fine themselves, its the fact that many OEM housings can't handle the heat. 6000k is not "brightest". Kelvin is a temperature color, not brightness level. 6000k is not pure white either, 5000k is. 4300k is going to actually be the most useable light. I would recommend doing some research on the topic, as pages could be written about this. (and have)
