Well guys, some loser in a pickup truck wiped out my car, totaled. I never had any of the problems that you guys had, no chirping, no codes but it's just luck. I've tried to prove that here by explaining statistics and failure rates.

I met my wife with my car, I drove it as a daily driver and it still looked and drove like new. I've never gotten as many compliments for something that I've purchased before, a great experience.

Not sure what car to get next, the wife gets a say in it, I only hope it's half as good as the Subaru BRZ. She says it cannot be anti-kid. Guess we're having kids now!

I hope you all get resolutions to your satisfaction.

The WRX is kid friendly!

Sad to hear you lost your car, but glad you're ok.

Vis101, Limited BRZ, 19,100 miles. I don't have my VIN right now, but I took receipt of my BRZ on June 4th, 2012. Tucson Subaru dealership.

Experienced a couple rough starts over the past 6 months but thought nothing of it. Then before Christmas I experienced the idle dip/hunting and rough idle while at a traffic light. Also got the blinking CEL. I was on my way to work and thankfully not far my the dealership. I kept the revs up at the few traffic lights I had to stop at and turned it in.

The dealership checked spark plugs, distributor, ECU, Compression, etc. Cylinder 2 was not firing and they could not start it back up after I dropped it off. It was the first time they saw this issue. The area engineers thought that since compression was still good, there may be an issue with the sensors on the faulty cylinder not being hit by the cams. Due to the holidays it took a while to get the spacers (shims) delivered and installed.

That solution failed to work and it appears that Cylinder 2 is not holding compression as it did before, which indicates that something may have broke off (what I don't know and am too sick be concerned with at the moment).

They have now placed an Engine R&R (remove & replace) request with the area rep. We'll see what happens. Either way, I will be at least another week without my BRZ though I don't mind if they are able to execute a thorough fix. I've said this elsewhere, but I've had great experience with Tucson Subaru so I'm not worried about being jacked around.

Well, jduffy, that is a shame about your car .....

I reckon you and any passengers are OK .. ??

Yep, wife and having kid(s) may be a game changer as far as transportation.

However, you can look forward to coming back to a small, fun car ...... OR, get one on the side ...... a CAR on the side that is .....

After performing an engine tear down this week, the mechanics at the dealership identified a faulty exhaust spring in Cylinder #2 as the culprit, which explains the compression issue. Parts are on order and if all goes well, I should have my BRZ back by Tuesday. I'm now concerned about performing any modifications beyond a cat back exhaust till my warranty is up. As other forum members have posted, as soon as the dealer finds you've done any mods to the car, they tend to be quick at blaming the mods for the issues (right or wrong). My wallet will be happier as a result of abstaining from extensive exhaust and intake mods, but I'm not sure how many years I can hold out without doing so.

Another to add to the list

FRS Manual 4800 Kilometers

Code P0019 - Engine light on, Slip Light on, not much in the way of idle issues.
ECU reflashed. Parts replaced. Lights still on. 2 weeks in the shop.

Awaiting Toyota's response today on what to try next......

purchased 2014 BRZ 3 weeks ago. CEL and Slip came on at 127km.

Richmond subaru said they will have a solution in a couple days.......

I thought buying a 2014 would be a safe bet but i guess not.

Can not be worse than my previous car. I literally had 50+ pages of service receipts for the vehicle. Some of those were oil changes, the rest... yea. And that was only within the first 30,000 miles. After that, I traded it in for the BRZ. I only have 3 or 4 service receipts for the BRZ and that is for oil changes and warranty work. All visits required 1-2 hours of being without my car.

Best purchase in my life.

Side note/back on topic: Hope they figure it out and get you back in your BRZ

It sounds like (maybe) you've had good relations with your dealership. Care to name them so others can go there?
