(It makes me sad that your car's color isn't stock. It looks great.)

I also started this project for @4azcats stock header no heat shields with the cat punched out. This along with the minor exhaust changes should be interesting. It should also be interesting to get him to do said mods.

With the O2 sensors there in the cat, will the car throw a CEL if you don't run a tune or spacers or anything else? Basically, can you punch the header cat and do absolutely nothing else, and get no CEL?

With a spacer using spark plug antifowelers we might get away with it but that has to be tested. However @4azcats has an OFT so it will not matter for him.
@jeffsides seems @captain_jack is out but I know a few of us are still heading up.

Yours seems to be an easy fix as far as fitment on the EL header. If you have the UEL already I would just stay with that. I am not a fan of the so called "Subie/Boxer Rumble" thus why mine is EL but to each his own. I actually wanted to stay and see your car on Wednesday but work was calling my name unfortunately

I haven't tested with a punched trough at but on a number of headers I haven't disabled the CEL. And I did forget to disable the rear af sensor compensation before and no DTC was thrown. I honestly can't even remember which DTC is commonly thrown for it though.

I've been wanting to test this as well to see how much of the tirque dip could be eliminated by simply removing the cat.

The rear O2 on these are too sensitive to use an antifoul plug. It will still throw a CEL. The reason is that the rear O2 will in fact adjust fuel trims just as the front will for various reasons such as attempting to heat the cat to get a reaction from it should the rear O2 see too lean a condition from pulling it out of the exhaust stream. Older systems you could get away with this but newer ones are nearly impossible to trick. They know better. The only way to be able to avoid the CEL is to disable the rear O2 trimming and the CEL associated. If you do not dissable that sensor there are side affects that you will not want occurring relating to STFTs.

As a tuner, if you try tuning the vehicle and there is no cat you will be basically chasing your fuel trim adjustments unless you eliminate the rear O2 functionality. Basically you will be a dog chasing your tail.

I'm thinking of punching the front pipe cat or the header one.

Yeah I had a problem once which is how I found out DTC isn't always thrown gene someone didn't tell me they didn't have a front cat and the fuel trims were changing in ways I wasn't expecting. I now always ask if someone has a front cat before flashing lol

Yep makes a surprisingly big difference. The trims can do some interesting things as the ECU try's to wake a cat up that doesn't exist haha.
