Why not opt for the lighter 17x8 instead of 17x9 if you're running a 225 track tire?

We were actually running on the CSG Wedsport TC105's on 245 RS3's for the record run. I still have 245 ZII Star Specs on my RPF1's at the moment and we didn't want to deal with mounting or dismounting tires off them just for a few events.

I also picked 17x9 because it gives me a wider selection of tires to pick from and with the FI I wanted to be able to explore some of the wider sizes to see what would work best.

Hope that clears things up!

TLDR answer: MOAR GRIP!

Longer answer: While I've tried to balance my aero, currently the wing is overpowering the front aero so we can't use the full range of adjustment without incurring understeer. I found this out the hard way when we experimented with the wing height and angle of attack at Buttonwillow. Even one notch up and one notch of more AoA made a significant difference.

However, there is more grip overall with the aero. You can start to feel the additional downforce at speeds of 30-40mph and definitely by 70mph. At 120+mph the drag starts to outweigh the benefits of the downforce.

One of my goals for the upcoming year is to balance out the aero as best as I can and one of the elements to get there will be a proper front splitter. I'm looking into some premade options but most likely will go with a custom fab set up from @Evasive Motorsports. A diffuser and possible underbody panels are also on my mind but we'll see how things shake out this year.

Keep in mind that the goal of my particular build is to make the car as fast as I can while keeping it street driveable. And by street driveable, I mean full interior, AC, sound system, etc. that I can enjoy in any season. I'm starting to toe the line in some aspects (mainly noise, idle smoothness and street clearance) but I want to use this next year to iron out as many issues as I can while retaining the speed.

As always if you guys have any suggestions on how you think I can improve my build - I'm all ears I've learned a ton over this last year from talking to so many 86 drivers and enthusiasts and I've made several adjustments as a result so by all means, feel free to speak your mind about my car!

Youre the guy to look up to dude. I just became part of the GReddy turbo kit Bortherhood about two weeks ago! I too have the FV valve (To atmosphere) and also got the perrin 2.5 OP and Frontpipe w a 2.5 ARK DCT catback exhaust. Everything else stock, on a mustang dyno im doing 225 whp w 91 oct and 7 psi boost. Now I see I can make much more with simple injector/pump upgrades and 3psi more. awesome! No issues so far?

Thank you for the kind words and congrats on the turbo set up! From what I've heard, Ken Gushi had a similar setup (just the turbo kit + exhaust) and put out roughly the same numbers for a mostly stock car (also on a mustang dyno).

I'm planning on writing up a 2013 retrospective on the car and the various things I discovered both good and bad as I built the car up over the year. (And I will cover the injector and pump upgrades as well as there are some pros and cons to adding them in your set up). Hopefully I'll have it posted this weekend

@ImperiousRex, what's the purpose of the black tape on your bumper?

The aerodynamic properties of the tape help smooth out the vortices created near the wheel wells and help increase the front downforce to a degree that it's the equivalent of adding 100hp worth of grip to the car.

Did anyone buy that? No? Dangit.

All kidding aside - if you've ever taken off your bumper multiple times, you'll notice that the clips on the edges of the bumper kind of give out and things start hanging out in the wild. I just tape it down to make sure the ends don't get caught by the wind and force other bad things to happen to the bumper >.<

That's what I figured but wasn't sure. Can those clips be replaced, or is it one of those things where you need a new bumper to prevent it from being loose?

The clips can be replaced but there are tabs on the bumper that fit over the clip and if those are cracked or broken then you'd probably need a new bumper (or get used to using a generous amount of superglue or some kind of jimmy rigged custom attachment solution >.<).
