I always thought that downpipes only pertained to turbo setups.

Just saying they don't all sound bad and i will be posting video's soon of the Motiv system from headerback catless and we'll see how it is. I'm not trying to argue but saying they all sound like crap is just untrue.

what sounds good to you may not sound good to me and so on there isn't only one right way to do it.

Not arguing, just stating everything I've seen with this engine and catless front pipes have never resulted in anything good. There's always a hint of rasp in even resonated/muffled systems. Cats do a great job of eliminating that rasp with minimal loss in flow.

Yes, everyone does have a different taste in sound of course. I'm one of the picky ones that can't stand rasp unfortunately.

Catless front pipes will LOSE POWER without a tune, as tested by @FA20Club.com in this thread . They will also increase RASP in the exhaust note without a resonator.

Catted front pipes will not lose power without a tune, again according to FA20Club, and they will maintain a mild exhaust note.
I'd take that with a grain of salt, I find it hard to believe that a pipe without anything restricting the flow of exhaust gases would LOSE you power if hooked up in a test pipe-catback combo.

yes the midpipe alone showed 5-6 hp gains on the dyno

note that the midpipe is a direct replacement to the stock one and it will bolt on to the stock muffler or any aftermarket axleback

Stock location flange so you will be fine. At most you may need a gasket.

If Works had a 3" midpipe, I'd consider. I need a 3" midpipe to fit my 3" inlet on my axleback.

downpipe applies to turbo subaru's because well, it comes DOWN from the turbo, jsut like the up-pipe goes up to the turbo.

in this case since the motor is flat, its more like a traditional test pipe, however because its a two piece setup the small pipe goes OVER thus called over pipe and then the front pipe is in front of the midpipe.

the diagrams show it best.

subaru turbo diagram:

vs brz motor diagram:

and then nameless make a one piece front/over pipe to eliminate that connection between the over pipe/front pipe. i think people use the turm downpipe because they are used to calling it that coming from turbo subaru's and most vendors are selling to both markets so really its just a wrong technical term for the same pipes which remove or take place of the stock catted pipes.

They haven't really tested any but I'm sure they have a few designs, just none for sale yet.
