Anyone running the Cosworth Air filter?

I'm about to order one of these drop ins but I can't find much info or reviews. Anybody running one these?

Looks like nobody has bought one of these. I passed on it since there was no real info and just chose from a drop in that FT86SpeedFactory had tested and ran on a dyno. The drop in from Perrin was also tested. If you want to spend twice as much for a drop in you can get the WORKS filter which MAY give you a couple more HP than any other drop in but nobody really knows.

I have one. Install was a bit tricky because it doesn't "line up" as exact as the oem filter. However, it has a thick silicone gasket so it still seems to be a good seal when the airbox gets clamped closed.

Throttle response seems better, easier to do rev matched downshifts. Maybe a 1-2hp gain? About to install the Perrin silicone inlet tube so that should further improve things.

Someone did a dyno with the WORKS in their thread but he didnt do a baseline but the rest of his car is stock according to him. It got 173-175 with 3 pulls I believe which is pretty good considering most stock FR-S/BRZ's get around 160-165. So IMO even if it is just 8 WHP it is outperforming other drop ins that get 3 to 4 WHP and up to 5 WHP.

Here is the dyno in that thread. Stock FR-S/BRZ's are gettting 160-165 so if he did do 165 hypothetically speaking then you do the math.


Vendors post dyno's to show that their product works. People shouldnt expect that much all the time as so many other things come into play when you dyno a car. I would be happy even if performed twice as well as other drop in filters. That already is a good enough reason to buy it. Drops ins get around 3-5 whp so even if it got 7 I would still be happy as it is still outperforming other drop ins just for a little more. Clearly everyone can see that the Works did perform as they claimed. 10 WHP is a lot but that customer got pretty good gains even though there is no stock baseline but we can compare it to other dyno's like ft86speedfactorys dyno's and other FR-S/BRZ's that got 160-165 WHP @ stock.

Speedfactory did dyno's and got a 163 WHP on a stock pull in 5th. Compared to 300 dollar intakes on the market you get similar results for a fraction of the price. IMO people who bitch about filtration test also need to realize that not many other companies give you those results unless its like K&N. Show me how many other companies selling intakes on these forums for 300~ dollars have given us results on how well they filtered. When you mod your car with new parts and scared that it will harm your car you shouldnt mod it in the first place. Any mods that increase power will alter the life of the vehicle. All we can do is look at how the filter has worked for other cars that they made it for. For example the Evo community and if there were any problems I am sure it would of been known by now.

@Bg8780 I wouldn't buy it until there was confirmation that it does produce such high gains. IF you don't care about the gains and only want it for sound, go with a cheaper one (AVO, Perrin, AFE, etc..) that is NOT oiled.

oh and the Cosworth filter is very good...

requires NO OIL and features a 100% synthetic high flow media.

Cosworth is well known and highly respected in the racing world.

Thanks a lot everyone! Despite the firefight there is still information in here. I've decided to pick up the Cosworth filter. I've loved everything they've done in motorsport throughout the 80's and 90's so trusting them as a company was never an issue to begin with. I'd just like to have something Cosworth on my daily driver as lame as that sounds. Also, the no oil is a big pro for me. Thanks again everyone.

Also, besides maintenance, what is the biggest difference between an oiled filter and an unoiled filter?

Wow! All this on a Friday night/midnight???? Doesn't anyone get laid anymore....?

After a lot research and looking at vendor reputations, I went with the non-oiled Cosworth, just to avoid any damage as was done to my previous track car by another oiled filter while tracking. (To avoid getting sucked into an argument, if you are interested in details of it, just do a search on my past posts)

I don't feel or notice any placibo effects from it either. My ass isnt sensitive enough to notice a few Hp, if any! I did it just to have a healthier and "possibly" a more resilient part on the car when tracked heavily. Parts resilient and durability is far more important to me than a stupid 3-4 Hp. If your driving performance is dependent on the 3-4 Hp gain, you seriously need to invest in driving school.

I was the first person here to publish the actual VIN of my car. Even before the first 86ers, and since we've followed most of them, unless you're the 1 or 2 that have slipped through the cracks, I've most likely had my car longer (I took delivery in march).

Just because you accept flawed test, doesn't mean the rest of the world does... Hell, some people still don't believe in dinosaurs because they weren't in the bible.

Now, can a mod please clean this thread up?
