There are lots of fun cars over the years, as many people have pointed out. In my mind however, there are some shining examples that refuse to let me drive them without a big evil grin on my face.

*NA Miata with the top down
*Lotus Exige S with the top off
*R53 MINI GP
*Austin Mini Cooper S [the classic ones from the 60's]
*Evo IX
*S2000, AP1 or AP2, both great

There are of course tons of other great cars, but those shine brightest for me in terms of pure fun.

I was a hotcammed Z28 guy, and swore by big displacement V8s. Finally got my dream car (a C5Z06) when I was younger, and traded up to a C6 1LT.

It took about 10 minutes behind the wheel of my buddy's 1991 NSX, for me to completely fall out of love with corvettes. Traded my vette in for an S2000 (which my friends thought I was crazy for), then traded that in to upgrade to a Lotus Elise.

So, with that backstory, my top 6 most fun cars to drive that I myself had the pleasure of driving, ranked solely on "driving fun" (no comfort, reliability, etc):

1. 2005 Lotus Elise
2. 1991 Acura NSX (the manual rack of the 91-93 years are a MUST have imo)
3. 2009 Boxster S
4. BRZ
5. 2006 Honda S2000
6. 2000 Toyota MR-S

out of the cars I have driven, I would rank the FUN ones like this:

1.600cc Microsprint in the dirt
2.1998 Honda Prelude
3.1991 MR2 with a Beams swap

I'm sure the FRS will join that list once I get it

Quick rundown of the top cars I've had fun with.

3rd Place: AP1 Honda S2000

Started my driving life as a Honda lover and this car was nirvana, knife edge handling, rediculous engine (back in 2000!), amazing gear change, and an overall special driving experience.

2nd Place: Lotus Elise

Came VERY close to buying one prior to my Z4M coupe, had an extended test drive and was blown away. Describing a car as a "go cart" finally made sense to me. But the Edmonton winters and overall lack of space made me pass.

1st Place

Ferrari F430

Yup, I don't care what anyone thinks, I have always prefered Lamborghinis to Ferraris UNTIL I drove them back to back. The screaming engine, the smash in your back F1 gear change (which I prefer to twin clutch systems) and the AMAZING feel. There was something magical that I haven't found in any other vehicle before or since, and makes you ponder why anyone with 150k to spend on a car would buy a brand new anything over a slightly used one of these. I have also decided that I will NOT upgrade my BRZ until I pick up a 430 (3 year plan).

Oh man...I had a very blessed youth and was exposed to a lot of crazy shit. I grew up around racetracks and so had many opportunities others wouldn't. I was lucky and appreciate it. My list would be something like this
1) 250cc super kart (mine...Honda engine custom chassis. Built is better than bought. It was honestly terrifying the first couple times out)
2) Formula Renault World Cup car (not mine...track day insanity)
3) 125cc TM ICC Shifter Kart (mine...driving nirvana 125cc at a time.)
4) SR swapped 240sx in the snow (not mine...open differential daily driven car in Rochester NY)
4) Turbo Miata in the snow (not mine...Hooniest. Car. Ever. 80MPH opposite lock flame throwing drifts)
5) Ferrari 360 Challenge Car (NOT mine...did a bunch of setup work)
6) BRZ (mine... will probably move up once its on the track. It is by far the most enjoyable, but not best, stock car I have ever driven especially given the cost)

EDIT: somewhere on this list should be the track prepped Ferrari Testarossa that I got to ride around Summit Point in. It was a beast and the owner was a great great guy.

I have to update mines!

125cc shifter kart.

Drove one for the first time and I don't think any car can leave a bigger grin on my face than that kart. If I was rich I would build a track in my backyard and race almost everyday.

I had a Honda CRX Si that was super fun to drive... That's about it. My FR-S is insanely fun to drive though!

Turbo 96 Miata, turbo '99 Miata. Turbo S13 was awesome too.

I had a turbo CRV too. That was fun from a stoplight-racing perspective.

When the FR-S is finally boosted, it might take the winner spot in the fun-to-drive category.

2001 Honda Civic EX

First car ever, beat the shit out of it and put 150k on it. Got me through the treacherous snow in Erie PA for 4 years during college(although I was sideways most of the time because I just couldn't leave the ebrake down on that car) . Still miss it

Then, BRZ.

Friends in high school were into sports cars.
MGA, B
Austin bugeye sprite, 3000
TR3, 4, 6 and the wedge thing
Jag MkII
Alfa giulietta spider, 2600 spider
RX7 second body style

I had an Alfa GTV 2000 for a while.
Then a Civic S
Since then it's been mostly motorcycles til the FR-S.

Next door neighbor has a RHD MGB he imported from England.

The few spors cars I drove that were awesome were
-2012 GT-R Black Edition
-2008 Evo X MR
-2013 Scion FR-S (My current car)

Never got to take the evo on the track but was a fun car. Modded it enough to keep up with corvettes. But the GT-R was track driven and was very fun. Im taking my FR-S to willow springs in a few weeks for the track event and cant wait!

Also owned a Saturn Ion Redline was the car I learned to drive stick on, I beat the shit out of the clutch for a few days on hills to learn how to drive manual. Was fun just traded it in towards the evo after a bit.

I got to test drive a 2013 Audi S5 and red lined the shit out of it. It was awesome. Went 96mph with the dealer pushing me to go farther and farther but I got to the road where I got pulled over in my e46 for 23 over, so I slowed down out of fear haha

I've had 3 Miatas ('91, '00 and '03) that were a blast to drive. Four trips to Deal's Gap between the 3 cars. A track weekend in the '00. Handled great, but I think they needed another 50hp under the hood

2004 GTI - My first turbo car. Handled good, but had a ton of electrical issues from a previous owner that really ruined it for me.

1989 Mustang LX - handled like crap but with heads/cam and an intake it was a blast in a straight line.

2009 WRX - My current car, first all wheel drive. So much fun, so much grip. I do love it, it is completely awesome when the weather is bad. But after a year, I want to be back in a RWD car.
