When I first saw the GC i thought it looked nice. You go Hyundai! My cousin was really thinking of buying it so we went for a test drive. Both took it for a spin and didn't like it as we thought it would. Who knows if the next generation will be better but for now I wouldn't get it.

I was expecting basically what I'm expecting out of the FR-S. A light, nimble, communicative package. The GC failed at that.

I've driven a well modified one at an autocross to, it just felt like a much faster but still dead feeling version of the stock one. I wouldn't call that a request for it to be hardcore either. Even the slowest, cheapest boxster is extremely fun to drive and extremely communicative, but I'm not sure anyone would ever call it hardcore.

I like the front of the FR-S, don't like the GC. Period. I'd rather have a ehh rear and a beautiful looking front, then a ugly front and a nice rear. I do like the GC rear tails more, right now, than the FR-S's

Well speaking of the GC another leaked photo of its new facelift has shown up. It looks ok but I don't think it is that amazing.

If i was going to buy GC i would buy the 3.8 with auto tranny. Why? because it's not a hardcore sportscar but a decent grand touring car. It is really heavy and just a lot bigger in dimension to be an outright sportscar but for the weight penalty it makes up in the ride quality and how quiet it is inside the cabin. let me give you a run down of each trim level i test drove:
3.8 track manual: 19" tires and stiiff suspension without much travel (butt dyno) makes this car VERY uncomfortable (i feel better in my wrx with tokico struts and prodrive springs), still heavy. decent brakes but very touchy in feel... 3.8 gran touring auto: comfy tire height and suspension result supple ride. this car is just runs smoother in automatic. keyless ignition, entry, HIDs..yada yada. very well equipped yet just as sporty as the track version without the harsh ride and touchy brakes. 2.0T manual: dont hear/feel the engine as much as I did on the V6... end of story. small tactile things: the leather used to wrap the steering wheel feels like plastic... clutch is retarded soft with a high engaging point (maybe i`m used to my car). but the overall chassis is really pretty nice; it's more of a bargain G37 rather than a nicer S2000. |

I actually haven't driven a GC yet, but I haven't driven an FR-S/BRZ either. However, as far as cosmetics go, I do like the look of the current and future GC. I actually really REALLY like them. But that's just my opinion. I think the new front is aggressive, sharp, and reflects on the other cars in Hyundai's lineup. Which I think is a pretty cool quality.
On the other hand, I also really really like the way the FR-S/BRZ looks (From what we have seen so far). The two cars are neck and neck to me looks wise at the moment. The GC will be a little bigger/heavier, but it also comes with an optional V6 which puts it in a totally different class "power" wise than the FR-S/BRZ. Considering that the R-Spec 3.8 GC is in the $27k range, I can't agree with people saying that the GC V6 is in a totally different price range than the FR-S/BRZ. Because it doesn't look like it's going to be. And with the 2.0T being close to $22k for the base, that's a hard deal to beat. Also, the GC comes with a 10 year 100k mile power-train warranty (for people wanting their car to last them 10+ years.) That's a pretty good deal. The tC and other Toyotas/Scions come with a 5 yr 60k mile warranty, I can't see the FR-S being any different. Just something to keep in mind. |
