I've got some catching up to do...
Somewhat related, beowulf clusters and ps3s. Fun stuff.

Lol..makes me wonder what you could do with this bench software you're looking at if you "simply" used your current pc to send the data processing work to a few ps3s running linux. Too bad ps3s aren't $150 a pop, if it was proven to be effective you'd probably come out cheaper to setup your own "supercomputer."

If they could be used that way and could actually do the calculations and rendering for that software...anyway. Was just a fun idea that came about from your mentioning beowulf clusters.

edit---
I wonder what even a single ps3 could pull off with those calculations after reading a bit on what they've actually been used to compute.
edit2--
Make a folding@home Dimman edition, ft86 club members will lend you their ps3s to explore ways of making the FA20 more efficient....or whatever dubious plans he may actually have.

....easy to tell I'm finally feeling better after having whatever cold/flu/death it was I had. Thinking of off the wall stuff.

I found a forum which has users support for the software, but I may be over my head. Complicated stuff. But user-friendly and open source aren't a common match I guess.

The cluster thing I looked into because I'm imagining pretty intense resource requirements. The closest situation I've experienced was 3d rendering software back in the day. Me and my buddy bought Caligari Truspace 2, and were running it on either a Pentium 90MHz with 8MB ram or a 133MHz with MMX and 16MB (it's been a while so my memory is foggy...). It had full ray-tracing with radiosity, squared fall-off lightsource options, anti-aliasing. Really good feature set for the era. But rendering a detailed scene in 640 x 480 24bit colour could take over an hour or two. Per frame. (We were mostly just using it for backgrounds, and short sprite animations.)

The doctor may not have done so, but I'm afraid the forum is going to have to prescribe you some time in the FR-S as recovery requires.
