There is a speculation of the new STi that it will not ride on the current Impreza chassis, but rather ride on its own. It will be smaller, lighter, and more rigid than ever. Combined with currently developing smaller box4 turbo engine (speculation calls for 2.0L or less), it will be a fantastic all around performer.

this is what i have read. based on their excellent sales and what the car has become, it's hard to upgrade it when it's based off an econo car's platform.

it won't bear the impreza name or styling at all. if all goes to plan, it'll be a brand new car, it's own interior, exterior, parts. that's if subaru really wants to brand itself.

I doubt it. Its an upgraded econobox-ish car now that sells for $40k. Their going to make the sti its own platform? I cant imagine that being sub-$50k and even for that price, you can buy a Porsche. Seems foolish to make an already expensive car more exclusive and more expensive and expect greater sales.

if not it's own platform (i doubt too), i think they are utilizing the legacy platform, as it's new.
but are straying away from it bearing a resemblance to the current impreza.

that is the million dollar question. How do you base a rally/badass looking model off of a budget impreza or legacy. IMO they failed with the previous gen....

I saw more recent spy shots of an impreza mule with a hood scoop grafted on, indicating turbo.

My guess is they're doing drivetrain testing using the Impreza chassis. Remember the BRZ mule we saw at the very beginning that was basically a chopped up Impreza coupe? looks wise it's nothing like the production car so there's every possibility that the WRX will look quite different than the current Impreza. There's a reason they haven't moved the current WRX/STi to the current Impreza chassis. If they were going to do that they would have released them concurrently.

For the record, I quite like the new Impreza for what it is. A very practical, above average econobox.

Nice! Did you get some inspiration from the Advanced Tourer concept?

That looks nice. I think '15 WRX will loose that grill, but rest might be in right direction

Dayyyum! If I tried doing that in ten minutes I'd most likely create a mountain of crumbled up balls of paper in the waste basket.

I agree with @ichitaka05, that grill will probably be exiting for their new design.
