Drift-Office Stage 1, 92 Oct tune

Bob at @Drift-Office flashed his Stage 1 92 Octane tune on my A/T BRZ. I am pleasantly surprised to say the least with how much power my BRZ has gained (+13.5whp, +10wtq). For the last couple weeks with the tune, I easily find myself going 10MPH over what I normally would be at. I definitely have to be more conscious of my speed than before!

If you look at the Dyno sheet below, you'll see that I gaine power and torque across the whole spectrum while keeping the AFR in a "safe" level throughout. However, I did have the chance to drive his M/T stage 1 92 octane tune, and wow, those couple extra whp can be felt!

This is the perfect bridge for me while I await my AVO turbo, in fact, almost had me second guessing the turbo... almost! When my turbo does come in the next few weeks, I'll definitely be going back to Bob to really get the turbo fine tuned.

An interesting note, before I even considered getting a tune or turbo installed by Bob, I Googled "Drift-Office" and "Virtual Bob" for bad / negative reviews... and could not find any. In fact, I found a lot of positive feedback that goes several years back on several different forums.

Below is the Dyno. My baseline is stock w/ HKS catback and slightly heavier than OEM wheel/tire setup (+4lbs per corner).

Nice gains man!! Can't wait to hear how you like the turbo on the AT I'm still undecided on FI it's nice to have a lot of options but I don't want to make the wrong decision.

I was crafting my own thread to review the 6MT version of the tune, but I will paste it here.

I have been driving around with @Drift-Office's Stage 1 tune for a few weeks now and wanted to post up my impressions on my 6MT.

Here are my dyno charts from when I had my AVO intake installed and from the day we flashed it. My only engine mod is an AVO intake and panel filter. Both dyno sessions were performed on my usual Costco Premium (91 or 92... I can't remember) fuel, with this tune being ran on poorer performing winter gas... Definitely excited to see what additional gains I will see once we get back on a summer blend!

Bone stock vs AVO intake

vs Drift-Office stage 1 tune

Look at that AFR

After leaving Bob's shop that day it was overwhelmingly apparent that THIS is how this car should have come from the factory. It really wakes the car up over 4K and leaves a grin on my face all the way to redline. This is clearly not a placebo feeling of gained power - no "butt dyno" logic here people. That is ~20WHP gain at 6.5K, and ~10WHP from the top of the torque dip (which is further reduced in size through this tune) all of the way up! Bob's Stage 1 tune is by far the best mod for the money. ANYONE not looking for forced induction (or anyone who is planning F/I in the future... you'll need the EcuTek license anyhow - might as well enjoy it while you wait!!) should be lining up to get this tune. Good god. After a couple of fill ups I noticed that fuel economy is a hair better than factory (I'm getting ~31MPG now, versus ~29 before with the main part of my commute being stop and go on the freeway). I'm sure it would be even higher if I could find a way to keep my foot out of it.

Bottom line is that if you are in the market for cost effective horsepower you need to start here. Compare it to the competitor's charts!

If you guys have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them!

Thanks! I am excited to have the AVO turbo come in! I will probably be starting a new thread for A/T AVO turbo as there are probably a lot of fence-sitters waiting to see the long-term results.

In the meantime, this tune is giving me plenty to smile about!

It's really interesting to see the difference with the A/T and M/T tune. I like that in the A/T, the power and torque increases are across the whole spectrum, but the M/T sure has a lot more grunt up top!

The graphs look great, but on both of the tunes, the AFRs are over 13. That's way too lean from everything I've ever seen to be safe with NA tuning. Can either of you comment on that?

Sure, I'll bite... NA tuning, 13:1 AFRs too lean? Are you mistaken or were you thinking FI's too lean @ >13:1? Or did you think that the FA20's HC pistons @ 12.5:1 running @ 13s are too high?

AFRs on the dyno charts are picked at the tailpipe, which includes catted exhausts in the case of our vehicles. Also, AFRs at the primaries are far richer than at the exhausts, which are at least a point off, towards being richer.

Alas, to put your mind at ease, commanded and logged AFRs are @ 12.4 - 12.5:1, and if they are indeed truly @ 13.5 (and in other cases in the high 14s), this engine wouldn't be running right now, much less for the weeks since they've been flogging it right?

Cheers!

Maybe with the overpipe and front pipe could bring up the dip, in most dynos ive seen those two things bring up that low end once tuned, then it will be a solid get up and go.

BUT DAMM! must be fun getting at it after 4k

I did ask Bob about the dip, basically no matter what you tune, that dip will always be there. The only way to get rid of it is via FI.

And YES! It is more fun after 4k!

Essentially, from what we've seen out there with what's being offered, there's no one particular intake / exhaust combination that would eliminate the dip completely - though it could be said that some might alleviate a portion or reduce the dip itself. Either way, it's there to stay in NA format. At least for now in it's stock form.

Regards!

There are SC kits that still have the Dip.

There are several TC kits that remove it.
