i know 370z will be more heavy comparing with the ft-86!! but after market carbon fiber parts can reduce the weight!!

i just wont go for the FT86 if its below 280HP!

i will wait!! if its below 280hp i will go for the 370z!

i drive Infiniti m35 now!! i dont want my daily use car to be faster than my weekend caaaar!!

Hey guys...

lookie here...

(tears of joy!)

...
JDM, your M35x curbs in at 4,004# and makes 275 hp.

For a 2600# car (lets say, the FT86) to beat it (by power to weight), it'd need 178hp.

Seeing as how it'd be RWD and pretty sleek, versus your AWD brick, it'd have the advantage till speeds were above any US sped limit.

Go test drive a 5speed MX-5 and notice how it accelerates just as quickly even though it's 100hp down.

my car did 0 to 60mph in 6.8 seconds!! and i play with cars such miata's everyday!

i dont think with the current specs the ft-86 will be capable of o to 60 in less than 7 seconds!!

No, it didn't. A magazine on their 5th try in an RWD, 6MT M35 did 0-60 in 6.8.

Nevertheless, this car is about cornering and driving feel, not drag racing.

Stupid chinese internet... sorry for double post.

well my car is 4WD!! which i got advantage in the start!! i know the X models are heavy and the car will be almost dead after 160km/h!! but 0 to 60 in The M35 X is no joke!! believe me!!

anyways! regardless the 0 to 60 time!! i hope the ft-86 got more HP than 200!!

As the proud owner of an AWD vehicle, neither nor I have enough torque for AWD to be an advantage off the line.

And you've got it backwards. Weight is more important at low speeds, aerodynamics at high speeds.

Didn't say your car is slow, for what it is I'm sure it drives nicely. From my experience with a G37x, they're reasonably quick and drive reasonably well but are much softer and less precise than the aim of this car.
And because of the focused nature and low weight, it doesn't need a lot of power to be really impressive.

200hp is definitely a reasonable goal, with the EJ20 base (perhaps even closed deck!), D4-S, and Yamaha work.

92mm x 75mm bore x stroke is soooooo much better for high rpm than the FB20's 84mm x 90mm.

Or maybe Toyota will surprise us with something different. And maybe a closed deck?
That would be sweet, but unlikely. I think it'd be overly optimistic to think they'd focus a lot of attention on building for boost (though God I hope they do) with the fore though of an easy EJ20 swap already in place.

Make up your mind to buy something else now. May I suggest a V6 gen coupe? Mustang (they handle pretty well these days)? BMW 135i coupe? Have at, quit yer bitchin, this was was never supposed to have that kind of power out the door.

As long as it's around 200hp and less than 2700lbs, it will get to 60 in 6.x seconds as long as the gearing is not totally disgusting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this one sounds like the car you guys are wanting.
No, it's not. Consider yourself corrected.

It sounds like you should probably wait for the next WRX, then, when it spins off from the Impreza platform. The AWD advantage can become a detriment in a heavy vehicle that has to work the brakes harder to slow when entering a corner resulting in earlier brake fade. And, you still have to deal with the understeer inherent in AWD platforms.

as for 0-60 time:
According to http://www.060calculator.com/ at 200hp and 2550lbs curb weight (which is where I estimate it would be at based on the weight of the last Celica and this is similar in size and weight focus) this car should be capable of sprinting to 60 in 5.641 seconds. That's plenty fast enough for me while I learn the dynamics of the car.

When I read a reworked boxer engine, to me it means a Toyota-fied engine. In other words, making it reliable. The only thing keeping me from actually buying this car is the boxer engine. There's way too many stories about wrx guys having problems, I've come to distrust it. And worse, Subaru not standing behind their product. I know Toyota won't let themselves drop to that level, and all this work is proof of that

ummm will i dont think that 200hp (in the fly wheel) will get the car in 5.6 sec!!

perhaps 200 in the wheels will do!! and i think this calculator, calculate the wheels HP not the fly wheel HP!!
