bestcarweb will post some crazy outlandish crap, it runs around all news circles as 'fact' for a few weeks, then gets lost in the noise. tldr: if anyone ever cites "bestcarweb" as a source, just laugh. they couldn't even tell you how many fingers are on your hand.

GRC is all hype cause its finally a new awd platform that people can turn to cause the only one left was the WRX. After driving a GRC, it's really not that fun to drive day to day and it doesn't handle all that well all things considered. might be different on dirt, but 99% of owners wont let their cars see a spec of dirt. supra was HEAVILY reliant on bmw. frs/86 is literally an entirely subaru vehicle at this point. it always has been minus a few minor things, but as a whole, it follows the subaru infrastructure of suspension and design and puts it into a 2wd sports car. you can hand the keys of a gr86 to any subaru tech, and they will find it VERY familiar. Toyota going solo with the 86 platform doesnt make sense for them. billions in R&D would be required to put out a product that can outperform this current generation and keep the true nature of what the car is... a nimble NA 2dr sporty coupe that is a riot on track and is humble on the streets. |

I hear the Celica is coming back too. That seems like it would be in the same space as the GR86. Surprised Toyota thinks there is enough sales volume in this segment to split them up among them..

Moving to a Celica with the GR Carolla's turbo'd engine on another platform would be a "clean sheet". It would give them a small, affordable-ish sports car made from the Toyota parts bin, but wouldn't carry the baggage of the BRZ/86's history. If Toyota even cares... |

Most people, excluding enthusiasts, cross-shop what's on the lot. Notice I mentioned price more than anything else. Every manufacturer have cars that overlap in price, and therefore compete in that price range. Sometimes it's the high end of one line, and the low end of the other that overlap or are close in price. Ultimately, car companies, like any other company, will build what will make them money. They don't care if one item sells more than another, or if they compete, as long as the revenue is there.

toyota's focus is economy models cause thats what their image is. its the prius, mirai, and hybrid rav4 and hybrid highlander. you can walk in and purchase most gasoline only powdered toyotas off a lot.. hyrbid waitlists are longer than gr corolla and gr86 waitlists. if they go solo, doing a celica makes the most sense. remarket the deadbeat 2.0 supra as the celica it should have been. bring back the dragon and the flagship. |

For Speed, driving this thing must feel like driving a 70s Ford Pinto would for most of us lol.
That said, I still can't wait for reviews. Subaru NEEDS to do a press track day for this baby. And I hope that at least one of the reviewers has the brains and the balls to ask Subaru why they only put the fancy dual-action dampers on the front end - was it just cost-cutting, or did they find in their testing that putting them on the back made no significant difference to the ride or handling?
