Non-Coilover option for racecar
Hi all,
My race team has a 2013 FRS we are running and we currently have rebound/height adjustable MCS Coilovers. One of the series we run (ChampCar) does penalty points based on mods, and these coilovers score us a ton of points and penalty laps. We are looking for a sort of cup kit alternative that would save us the points for when we run Champ. I don’t see any full kits, so am mostly wondering if anyone here has experience with different shock/spring combos on track. Thanks!

Bilstein B6 + RCE Yellow is one option.
Zdan uses B6 + Swift Spec R springs. Are you allowed to run camber plates? - Andrew |

We are, and we do. They are 20 pts per pair, 10 points=1 penalty lap per 8 hours of racing. The MCS coils were getting us 140 points total, a spring/shock combo would be at most 20 points total. Rules on spring replacement: “Suspension Springs, non-OE coil springs are 5-points per corner - Exemption: Vehicles may replace OE coil springs for 0-points provided that the replacement spring: ▪ Is the same shape as the OE spring (straight, frustum, beehive/keg, etc.). ▪ Maintains the exact same ID/OD measurements as the OE spring (+/- 0.25”) when measured at the midpoint and at each end of the spring ▪ Springs may be cut and/or used with spacers (spring rubbers) for no additional points ▪ Shape and measurements must match when the springs are in their original unaltered condition” Not sure if any of your suggested meet the exemption reqs.

I ran OEM 2017+ dampers with peddlers top hats non adjustable and RCE yellows on track. Pretty solid combo. Add camber bolts for more camber if wanted/needed

And yeah, the OEM PP dampers do work well too if you have a set laying around or can find a low mileage set for cheap, but the Bilsteins are better and can take more heat. - Andrew Last edited by Racecomp Engineering; 03-06-2023 at 10:06 AM. |

Depending on how soon you need the springs, I may have a set of RCE Yellows coming off my car hopefully within the next month or so

I still love my Oem 2017 Base dampers, how many points for sway bars and camber plates? IMO those dampers with a decent camber and a big front bar work really well plus they’ll be easy on tires.

The stiffest springs for our cars I believe are the RCE Tarmacs (my springs by discontinued), but unfortunately no springs that go over 300 pounds.

depending on how much money you want to spend I think you can put stock spring mounts on the MCS you have. not sure if that is still legal in your class, but it works for SCCA SOLO.
