Japan-spec infotainment center
I noticed that there is a difference between Japan-spec infotainment screen as being slightly larger than the non-JDM spec models. I was wondering if anyone knows whether Subaru plans on making these specs available at some point of if they can be ordered and installed on U.S. based cars?
For reference: https://www.subaru.jp/brz/brz/design/interior

The Japan HUs have almost always been different than the North American ones. Hell, at one point the Canadian ones were different than the U.S.! Not really sure why. To the best of my knowledge they have never changed what we can get to what Japan get's but anything can be had for a price. No doubt you could track down a way to order one but it will cost you.

looks like a Carrozzeria(Pioneer) radio that is an option
JDM spec brz does not come with a factory radio. Radios are all optional add ons and upgrades for the japanese model brz im sure someone can chime in as to why it isnt included... in fact ive seen a lot of japanese spec cars NOT include a factory infotainment system, but a dealer installed optional accessory. here is a snippet of the japanese car builder... i had to navigate it in japanese, as google translate breaks the car builder program on the japanese website.. but you can clearly see radios as being options and both premium and limited models both dont have radios as standard options on their website |

I always wondered why they never offered the giant touchscreen here.
I think it looks way better to fill the space than with the standard one with the buttons on the bezels. |

you can thank america for making things like back up cameras and bluetooth calling mandatory features on new cars. companies are forced to create an infotainment system that supports it all which is why we never get "bare bones" versions of any cars |

Apart from looks and size, you don't want a JDM unit unless you only plan to use it with streaming. JDM AM/FM radio bands are different, so you will not get all US FM stations made available to you, plus the antenna differences will make what you do get work subpar.
Just something to bear in mind. |

Im just happy with my 1970s ICE.. Actually, I'm not but can't justify the expense of procuring a double din unit.

FM frequency band in Japan is 76-95 MHz currently and US is 88-108 MHz. Plus, Japan uses a slightly narrower width for each channel, 19 MHz vs 20 MHz. Because of this, JDM gear can work a bit poorly with USDM antennas that are designed and tuned for US domestic service. That said, some JDM gear may actually support USDM radio service if it's a unit that also will see export use, so you'd have to check the specs of whatever unit you're looking at. My warning was just that there are differences that can be a gotcha if you're a heavy radio listener. Me, I almost never listen to the radio, so it doesn't matter.

imo, most radio stations drift enough between 3-6 frequencies, i don't think it'd be a problem in many cases.
