yikes the car is essentially a rebadged civic.....

even the ILX was way more differentiated than the 9th gen civic it was based on.

Then again:

Acura had the EL up in Canada, that was pretty much a rebadged civic.
They also followed that up with the CSX, which was essentially a dressed up JDM Civic sold alongside the NA spec Civic.

Yeah Canada's wierd...we got a bunch of rebadged small cars not sold in the US.

Look at that beautiful piano black center console, another way you can tell they put so little thought into this. My god someone needs to be fired.

Even with lowered expectations, I find it pretty laughable that the standard transmission is a CVT with paddle "shifters". Latest data drop is pitiful.

Looks like they tried so hard not to show a side profile cuz it'll look exactly like a civic lol.

This is essentially a Civic SI with nicer interior bits.

I just pointed this out in the random thoughts thread. Acura, Cadilllac, Lexus, etc are just Honda, Chevy, Toyotas with a little more effort put into to it to please brand loyalty customers.

Toyota has worked so hard to differentiate Lexus and Toyota over the years, and its always the Japanese lux brand that gets grouped with the big 3 germans (usually as the 4th player though), so they're doing something right there. The upcoming generations of Lexus doesnt seems to be differentiate as much as before though (or the Toyota branded stuff has gotten better)

Infiniti has given up trying to be different than Nissan, Acura doesnt even try anymore.
I think Cadillac is there mainly because its the only american brand that can compete, cuz Lincoln surely doesnt (plus Lincoln seems to be like Buick and belongs in the Acura tier of not quite there)
Genesis seems to be doing a good job...but its still stuck with the "Korean brand isnt quite there yet" image.

That statement is 100% false with regards to Cadillac's sedans. Also hasn't been true for many Lexus models for a while (though used to be spot on for them).

Cadillac still shares a ton of powertrain, chassis, and piece part designs with the rest of GM, and their quality suffers greatly from it.

If you're picking apart certain vehicle classes, then yes, and even the model and trim of sedans. But at least back in 2016-2018 when I was in the car rental business. Getting inside a Cadillac sedan was getting inside a nicer Chevy Impala/Malibu, when they changed the design with the latter.

I mean is great that certain brands are trying to distance themselves from their more economic counterparts, If I am paying luxury prices for a re-badged Toyota. Nissan, Chevy, Honda, etc. I expect the differences to be blatantly different so I can distance myself from the common rabble while drinking my Elvian water.

I mean I'm talking about the CT4, CT5, CT6 and their performance variants. A bit of powertrain sharing depending on the model, but the platforms were built from the ground up specifically for Cadillac. There's a reason they handle better than their BMW peers.

As to their SUVs, lone FWD offering (do they still have one?), and pickup truck, well sure but who cares in the context of our discussions. I thought we were only talking about performance vehicles.
