So, apparently, is common sense (at least for some).

I think it’ll be significantly quicker than a 986 base. I think it’ll be between the 987 and 987S.

It's slightly faster in a straight line than an ND2 Miata, which means it'll be slightly better than a 5.8 sec 0-60, 14.4 sec quarter-mile.

Maybe a 14.3 sec quarter mile?

You can base other comparisons off that.

It’s been timed already at 5.6 with the base Primacys and 1 ft rollout.

New 2022 bmw 230i looks pretty similar to brz — has anyone compared performance estimates? BMW a bit heavier, but way more torques, and only 4k more in price, doesn’t sound like a crazy comparison

3519lbs is pretty porky, that's going to feel very different to drive than 2881. I'd bet the BMW is slightly quicker in straight line with the turbo but I'd much rather drive a twin.

A couple quick things, 2022 2-Series is automatic only and significantly heavier. I guarantee you'll almost never see one at base price. "Regular" BMWs typically will charge at least $500+ for anything but basic white or black paint, then unless you special order will have several packages included. My guess is you won't see the average 2-Series priced below $40k. So $10k spread in the real world for an arguably slower car as it's significantly heavier.

Having said all that the M240i is the real price/performance bargain, at a smidge over $50k properly equipped you're getting essentially an AWD Supra with back seats.

The only reason NOT to buy either is that BMW is doing some weirdness with their interiors. They want to debut their new "all screen" interior on their electric i4 and iX. Oddly the new 2-series as well as the currently M3 are getting prev. gen screens until next summer when most of the lineup gets upgraded. I'd be pretty miffed buying a $50k+ car ($75k+ for the M3) only to have a MAJOR interior upgrade about a year afterwards. If you're seriously considering a 2 or 3 series, get one produced after July 2022 with the much more modern screen system.

The automatic-only trans situation is the killer for me, or I’d get the new M240i no questions asked. I’d put up with the weight and questionable exterior styling, but the auto is a deal-breaker.

I can’t tell if I’m the weirdo or what because everyone seems to rave about the 2 series BMW’s ZF 8spd and I think it flat out stinks, and it’s not like I’m some spoiled kid with absurdly high standards (I’m shopping between a BRZ and a Mustang for godsakes).
