Right?

I'm all for the thorough, knowledgeable and informative reviews. Even if some of them sound like a mad scientist or have an overly enthusiastic 3am-infomercial tone.

Most of these young influencers are just getting rich off their own clickbait products. I mean, how can you not care whether you got the Base or Premium model when you went in to buy the car? How are you going to "learn" all this new stuff AFTER your purchase? And not knowing what "extra stuff" came in the trunk? Really? I usually do months of extensive research before buying a car and know EXACTLY what I'm getting before I even walk into a dealer so I'm usually (and ironically) more knowledgeable about the car than the sales manager. Lol.

I guess some people are lucky enough to just blow through money not caring about that stuff.

Can I pay extra to not have that?

It's part of an array of safety features, but I think you can disable it in the "iDrive" menu.

Yeah. I'd rather they just not be there at all. Like the AWD system in the new M5. "bUt YoU cAn TuRn It OfF" Turning it off doesn't remove any of the mass.

True. Good point. You'd think the M cars would be left alone with RWD only and give the X-drive options to the lower models.

But a majority of mandated and standard safety-related features will always increase along with the extra accompanied weight. That's just evolutionary, thanks to NHTSA, IIHS and the increasing trend of distracted driving (phones, food, misbehaving kids, etc.)

LOL, I feel the same way. Whilst on one hand, I can see how this tech might help prevent some accidents by inattentive or lazy drivers, I just don’t need or want it, especially in a sportscar. Extra weight, complexity, and cost.

The only safety features I want or need in a modern sportscar are ABS, TC I can switch off when desired, and a reversing camera is handy given how bad rear visibility can be in modern cars. The 86 got this pretty right in this regard.

The M cars just keep getting fatter, and X-drive isn’t helping. To compensate for the added weight, they just keep adding power, which then reinforces the need for AWD to put the power down. Makes them quicker 0-100 and in the 1/4, but doesn’t make them handle better or make them more fun. It’s the reason many, including Chris Harris, consider the M2 the best current M car, because its the lightest, simplest, and purest.

It isn’t the lightest.
