I am regularly over 270F, probably close to 290F more than a few times, but I rarely check. Also, thanks for the coolant gage tip!

Semi, what kind of oil are you using? Debating on switching from subaru 0-20 to a 0-30 or 0-40.

I only ever get that high when I'm on extended highway trips above 3500rpm or during autox

Personally, I wouldn't be worried unless it goes over 270. Mine '17 is stock and IIRC I've gotten it up to where yours was on the tail of the dragon, driving hard etc. Quality oils can handle 250-270 just fine with out too much degradation. If you daily it, I would be more concerned about oil taking too long to warm up if you get an oil cooler. If you are really worried just change the oil at shorter intervals.

WTF? Do you redline it everywhere you go, or only drive in the extreme heat? O_o

I hit 220F driving in stop and go traffic, and 230F sometimes just driving in the winter.....but 2014 with "oil cooler" forester mod.
0w-30. 250F is high but I'm just adding anecdotal evidence.

Also most oil coolers have a thermostat that won’t open until 185F, so the engine warms up as normal. |
