Salvage BRZ
Hello. I purchased a salvage 2013 BRZ, I think Limited as it has push to start. I don't get power to anything besides interior and trunk dome lights, door sensor doesn't work. My power locks don't work either. I was wondering if anyone knows what systems need to receive power for power locks and accessory power. Or how to start to diagnose this issue. Thank you.

Door lock actuator. It’s the motor that controls the locks going in and out.
Because the doors are so thin and non-insulated tons of grime gets built up in this device and it’ll stop functioning entirely. Pretty easy install even for a beginner. |

Step 1. You bought a salvage car dead in a parking lot without any idea of how to diagnose basic electrical issues?
Step 2. Google BRZ wiring diagram and dive in. Probably a prefuse blown by something major shorted, or separated by SRS? Not sure if these cars are that smart. |

2. I pulled all fuses and relays and there were a few blown ones. I tested them and after confirming that the fuses and relays work, I cleaned them up and put them back. 3. I am asking for help as I am stuck. If you're one of the people who says to google or are judgmental, please do not reply to this thread. In fact do the world a service and don't reply to any thread. You really need the factory service manuals.
You can download PDF versions from this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8374 You can download the BD-ROM version from this thread: https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35279 I have the BD-ROM saved as my F drive on my laptop. It has come in quite handy on several occasions. |

Also, so I believe this car was a rollover. However, the worst part is that someone at the auction ripped off the window protective stickers to take a look inside and it was raining then. When I got it, there was about an inch of water in the car. I didn't provide power since I got it prior to gutting and cleaning the whole thing. Including opening every module and cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and brush. https://imgur.com/a/BhLR9Xy Last edited by DenisSlob4; 06-03-2019 at 06:07 PM. |

Are Kirkeys, an LS and Motech an option? Probably the easiest way to bring that back.
And I found your power issue. Everything is unplugged. Seriously though. If that's the current condition, you aren't in a place to check anything. Assuming the car has been reassembled to a significant degree... Power and ground. Everywhere there should be power and ground. That's step one. After you've established constant and switched power, check CAN. From there, you're ruling out modules. I watched a guy dump $80k in to a flood salvage S550. It left our shop the same way it came in, on a roll back. He had "disassembled and cleaned" the modules as well. They were all dead, along with the chassis harness. My $40k quote ran him out the door. He could have bought a nice running car for $50k at the time. I suspect you will surpass the price of a running BRZ well before it ever moves and passes an inspection. Good luck, looks like a track toy to me at this point. I'd run a search on the VIN to find the exact options the car came with, as the modules and harness could vary significantly based on keyless vs keyed premium model. Once you know which category it falls under, you can limit your wire hunting and run proper root cause hunt. It may not hurt to buy a harness from a known working car to eliminate shorts or missing pieces. Being a salvage car, someone could've jacked up that harness. |

As for the comment I made. I understand where you're coming from but when I read other people's threads it's annoying to see some random person messing up a good conversation with their random posts. Wastes everyone's time. And yes, I came to a car forum to talk about car issues and resolutions amongst people like myself, not to be judged by some random person. I have no problem with them starting their own thread to talk about things relevant to them. |

It's the salvage FR-S that you need to be careful of. You should be fine with the BRZ.
