Wow I didn’t realize there was such a big discrepancy on sales in the first year. That explains a lot then.

Well Subaru has a few cars with the FA20 where as Toyota just has one. So you would expect a Subaru tech to be a little more knowledgeable on the engine. Although I doubt even at Subaru they spend much time rebuilding FA20s. But I agree the failures are probably bias on this forum due to the number of FRS’ sold.

I’m just hoping these people with bearing failures get taken care of. I rebuilt my engine about 7500 miles ago and it’s running fine but I bet if I get the recall done and it goes badly they will point their finger at me for doing my own rebuild. Or they could pull the old, “we don’t have oil change records for your car” scam.

My point is statistically it seems they’ve created a bigger risk to the customers while shifting the liability to the dealers. But without real numbers you can’t be sure.
Ya, we need a sticky thread where those that have failures after the recall work can post what happened so that we can keep a running tab! Can someone do that?

Also, with Subaru they have more cars in total involved in the recall so it is very possible the BRZ work isn't being done as quickly and we wouldn't see the other model failures on here.

In the end though I would think at this point if there was a high failure rate on the repairs, there would have been a stop work order put out until it was determined the cause.

It's also possible we've heard from everyone that had a failure, but that seems unlikely.

Why? What would it prove? To track failures without knowing the number of successes is dirty data. It is worse than meaningless since it does not consider all the possibilities. Even if we could track the failures vs the successes on here it would still be meaningless since we are just too small a sample size to compile any form of accurate statistics.
It is indisputable that there have been some problems but to emphasize those issues while ignoring the successes is nothing but fear mongering and irresponsible.
Everybody needs to just take a step back, take a big breath and relax. Going on a quest to find issues only will result in finding only the issues and not the reality of the situation.

Yep! As much as so many on here would like to think they know more about doing business than Toyota and Subaru the companies know what they are doing. The recall is already costing them $450 MILLION and they are not going to force that cost up by having to replace engines in every 10 cars or so.
Like all car forums there will always be a bunch running around screaming that the sky is falling because a drop of rain fell close to them.

Rumor is some dealers have put their own stop order in the repair.

It would be the prudent thing to do if the dealer is aware of the failures and still have several cars to do.

less than 2 weeks and less than 200 miles after the recall, my engine has seized and refuses to rotate. Car has been sent to the local dealer today to figure out what happened

I see you have some mods. It will be interesting to see if the dealer tries to blame the mods.

Good luck!

Seems like we need a "condolences" button rather than a "thanks" at times.

Reeses "Sorry, not sorry!" too for completeness?
