Disabled by default. See attached excerpt from the 2017 manual for how to enable it. Shouldn't be any different for your 2018.

I don't use it myself so I can't comment on how good it is.

Thanks. I don't want to use it since many drivers don't recommend it. I will learn either e-brake or brake/throttle options.

Many of us don't recommend it because we would suggest learning to handle the car without the training wheels instead. As long as you're using it, there's a good chance you'll rely on it and will never be forced to learn hill starts without it. Then, if some day you decided you wanted an older sports car that doesn't have it, you'd be limited.

HOWEVER, if it's a matter of safety in your location or with the kind of driving you do, turn it on for now but discipline yourself to go out and practice away from traffic until you don't need it and are comfortable turning it off. Those of us who generally don't recommend it would rather you be safe first.

I have a manual 2013 BRZ, one of the last built that year.

While in for oil change took a new 2018 out for a drive. I have forgotten how this clutch feels when new. It's definitely weird. I liked the updated suspension feel and the exhaust note also seemed a bit more satisfying. This demo car didn't have the Performance Package.

Back on topic to clutch. It took me a while to acclimate to the feel of the new one. Getting back in mine felt like greeting an old friend. So don't make a decision on this car based on ititial clutch feel. It changes some and you will change a lot and it all works out very well

Respect for going out and buying a manual car and forcing yourself to learn! Great car to have as your first standard vehicle. Like everyone pretty much said, practice makes perfect. It can be very frustrating at first, but just be patient and keep at it. You're already doing more than most people out there haha

Step 1: Practice stalling - Slowly release clutch in 1st while stopped. Do it again but fast.

Step 2: Practice clutch control - Slowly release the clutch in 1st until engagement is felt then push it back in. Repeat.

Step 3: Practice moving with just the clutch (slipping the clutch) - Slowly release the clutch in 1st until the point of engagement and hold or slightly advance and hold, but never release completely. Hold until the car starts to move, while not allowing the rpms to drop to the point of the car stalling. Then apply the clutch then brakes to stop and repeat.

Step 4: Practice holding rpms for 15 seconds at 1500, 2000 and 2500.

Step 5: Practice holding the rpms at 1500 and do Step 3 then stop and repeat.

Step 6: Repeat Step 5 while adding more speed then shifting into 2nd gear. Repeat.

Step 7: Practice Step 5 on gentle grades then practice a hand brake hold on an incline. Lock the handbrake, do Step 2 and hold, slowly release the handbrake half way and gentle apply some gas until the car loads more or moves forward then release the handbrake completely.

Anyone will learn to drive a stick in thirty minutes or less with these steps.

I learned how to drive manual by talking sh** telling everyone that I used to drive to high school in a stick shift 240SX. One morning my friend from automotive school arrived to class in a new/used 2001 1.8t VW golf and told me "look what i just got, here man drive it around"
At that moment I almost fainted. I had an idea on how to drive manual from Grand Turismo on the PS2 using the video game steering wheel with the pedals but never got behind the wheel of a real one. That day I drove the 1.8VW and I only stalled out twice. LOL, my buddy was like "You animal! you dont know how to drive stick? I kept quiet and said "yea i do but this is a different car man. I forced myself to learn that day, I was quietly sweating bullets but I managed to learn rather quickly.
