You'll only be bothered by ca emissions. Swapping header and tune to stock isn't that much work and you won't have to do it often. In your case id recommend oft for tuning.

Ask them if they can source a HJS converter. One of if not the best on the market. Will be pretty expensive though. If you want to lower noise for less than a new catback then check out dynatech auger muffler.

With an aftermarket manifold you won't pass visual.

I went catless due to the price and less than ideal cat converters used in the catted versions. Haven't had a problem driving past CHP or local police. UEL, stock over/front pipe, and N1 catback.

If you're willing to compromise on some things then we can find a good set up for you

Since you're trying to do this legally, just be aware that if you take an (originally) out of state vehicle and attempt to register it in CA for the first time, you will need to smog the vehicle.

Just because you're in an area exempt from renewal smog doesn't mean you are exempt from first time registration smog.

You should really listen to people here. There is zero chance your car will pass emissions testing in CA legally. Inspection might be different but if you are forced to register it here then you will be forced to smog and fail. I would recommend getting a catless header and keeping the rest of the exhaust stock so you can keep secondary cat and get a oft and sadly swap back and forth. Swapping a header is easy with hand tools jack and stands

20 horsepower and a normal torque curve make a big difference with these cars. Even better if that header is blowing into a snail.

What is a snail?

Following the advice of many ^^^ I took a good look this afternoon at what is involved in changing headers on these cars and I have to agree that the degree of difficulty is relatively low. My jackstand days are long behind me but solutions can be found.

Important questions remain as to the oxygen sensors, the CELs, the noise level, the sound quality, the fit to the OE exhaust. I've heard such cars and their infernal noise is not something I'd be willing to live with, power be damned.

This is OK at idle but too loud during acceleration:

As for the OFT this is what is beyond my capabilities:

I have the stock exhaust with mine and it’s not really any louder than having the stock header.
I believe the snail in reference is a turbo.
The oxygen sensors were taken from the OE header and went into the speed factory header with no issues.
No check engine lights in the two months that the header has been installed.
No issues fitting up to the stock exhaust parts.

Good to know. Even under hard acceleration?
