Subwoofer Help!

As I am new to the “forum life”, I’m not sure if I’m posting this in the right section or not. But feel feee to let me know and I’ll repost in another section. I received a Hifonics Zeus Subwoofer from a friend and am having trouble figuring out what kind of amp I would need for it. I pulled it out of its box and saw that it was rated(?) at 350 watts and 2 ohms. I took it to a shop and was told it was a dual voice something something. He told me to look for an amp that runs at either 1 or 4 amps and at LEAST 300 Watts. I’m finding this strange as I’m seeing amps with 1000 watt single channels.

Questions:
1. Is the information I was told correct?
2. Would it be better to run at 1 or 4 ohms?
3. Is it bad to run an amp that far out powers the sub’s needs?
4. Any suggestions for an amp below 150$ range that will suit my needs?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome.
I think the dude meant ohms not amps.
But yes he is correct. You don't really need all 300 watt amp. Anything in between would be just fine. A 1 to 4 ohm stable amp would be geat.

Keep in mind that a duel voice coil sub has to be wired just right. Since yours is 2 ohm you can run it at 1 ohm at parallel hook up and squeeze ever ounce of wattage from the amp or run a conservative 4 ohm with a series wiring hook up.

And yes you don't want a big amp say 500 RMS watts, running into your 300 watt sub. You'll fry it really quick.

If you have doubts just YouTube it.

As far as amps, now a days you can get a decent one from Walmart or a better one from Best Buy.

A quick google-fu I found this little bad boy. It's a class D mono block amp for $120 from Walmart.
