FWIW, I run 245s all-around for autocross. If I were to put 215s back on the front as you seem to suggest I should, I would get butt-raped in the butt with a lot of rape.

Obviously no one knows what they are talking about here. You kids all need to start running 265/70/15 in the front and 185/35/18 in the rear for maximum grip and and acceleration.

I personally prefer running a staggered setup with 255/R18s on the driver side and 205/R17s on my passenger side. Since all the off-ramps in my city are right hooking, I get the immediate responsiveness of the passenger side narrower tires throwing me into the bend with the meaty driver side tires keeping me from spinning out. 10/10 wood recommend.

They absolutely heat up. On warmer days, you need to bring a water sprayer to keep your tires cool. It only takes one 45-60 second autocross run to bring them up to a good temperature. Even with 5-10 minutes between runs, your second run will be significantly grippier, and your third run will be even grippier. If you get shoehorned into a re-run in between, though, you can sometimes get buttfucked by an overheated tire if you don't get the 5 minutes between runs you are supposed to get.

This thread is nuts and the comparisons brought up are horrible.
I run 17x9 with 255/40 because I think it looks good, protects me from NYC potholes, and saves my wheels from the occasional curb rub from a hasty parallel parking job. Never been on the track. We all have our own reasons, stop justifying to others or trying to convince others. Especially with such bad comparisons. |

Errr...how does that size protect against potholes? It's virtually the same sidewall as the stock 215/45...

if you're in a cold environment and cant get heat into your 205's sufficiently and the manufacturer says its safe on your wheel that would work. You'd drop weight and get into your operating temp range quicker.
There is no 100% right answer for all conditions. most people WAY over tire this car... I know mine is but dammit it looks cool lol

for this particular wheel size, the 255/40 is a little more meat on the 9" wheel

Your own reasons using large wheels/tires are not relevant with performance. Why do you need to get bothered with this discussion? |
